I really miss pizza

Postby colorlvr » Wed Sep 29, 2004 6:37 pm

Can anyone share a recipe that could satisfy my craving for pizza?? I don't care for the crust as much as just that whole sauce/cheese/pepperoni flavor. How can I make a mock pizza?

Im sure there will be lots of suggestions. But I have used whole wheat tortilla as crust...and added the toppings you desire heat in oven.

No need to torture yourself about pizza. There are some great crust recipes in this thread: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17946&highlight=pizza+crust

<Ducking in expectation of having large and/or rotten objects thrown at me because some folks are NOT going to like my suggestion>

I love pizza, too... and I don't deny myself pizza. I have 2 slices of a regular old pizza... thick crust... meatball and sausage... extra cheese.

We have this roughly every 2 weeks or so. I balance out my other meals that day in anticipation of having this and I've suffered no ill effects as a result. I'm still losing weight in Phase 2.

I don't believe any *diet* should completely abolish all of the foods that you love. If there is a food that you can eat in moderation and control yourself with, that will allow you the satisfaction that you need emotionally and physically, go for it.

OH, Lynda! Thank you for saying this!!!!

I agree with your philosophy and think that once every couple of weeks is fine and (gasp) normal.

Pizza Substitute

I share your pain about not having pizza. But I found a recepie (from the South Beach Recepie search) that is good for phase 1, it is called a meat crust pizza. Brown some hamburg or turkey, drain excess fat then mix the hamburg with 2 cups low fat mozzarella cheese, flattent the hamburg and cheese mixture on a pizza pan and then place your toppings on it (ie canadian bacon, veggies and pizza sauce (I recommend ragu) and then a little more cheese on top. Bake it in a 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes with aluminum foil on the bottom of your oven or place the pizza pan on a baking sheet so any excess greese will fall on it. After it is cooked wait 5 minutes for everything to settle. I couldn't believe it when I ate it, I thought it was a good substitute. Enjoy

Ohhh pizza... without a doubt, the most missed food here too! I agree with Lynda and the others that if I'm going to have pizza, it's going to be regular, good old-fashioned full fat pizza. However, I don't think I could splurge every couple of weeks. In my 9 months on South Beach, I think I've had it three or four times... and enjoyed every single bite!

I love the pizzas made on a WW tortilla. I bake it on a stone and get a nice crispy crust. Yum Yum

They don't show the ingredients that I could see, but probably not. Atkins is based on a different concept, so most of their foods don't fit into the good fats good carbs concept of SB.

While I agree that occasionally eating full-fat pizza isn't likely to do a lot of damage, this is just a general caution to not let the "I'm still losing weight, so X must be okay"-type of thinking get out of hand. Atkins people still lose weight, often while their cholesterol skyrockets because of all the bad fats. So just be careful about those bad fats.

We enjoy SB-friendly pizza about every 2 weeks. You can use a ww pita or tortilla as the crust like others have mentioned, or make a crust. We use the dough recipe that Zumba posted here (my daughter loves making it), and then top it with no-sugar-added tomato sauce w/ spices, 2% mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni. ¼ of the pizza has 7 g of fiber, so it's even good for you. And it's really, really yummy.

My family has pizza night once a week, due to evening sports,
classes, food shopping, etc...and the need for a fast dinner.

This week...I "gave into" having 1 slice..or sort of.. I scraped off all the
sauce and cheese and tossed out all the crust and bottom layer.
Tasted good, but kinda messy.

I'm trying to figure something out... exactly what part of the pizza is it that you ate?

Thanks for re-posting my meat crust pizzia recipe again. I was going to go looking for my original posting and post a link rather than re-type the whole thing.

I am slowly teaching a friend who never cooked much and lost her hubby (cook) last March some cooking/nutrition skills. As I meet with her and put recipes on my computer I will be posting them here. I have tons of recipes that are SBD frfiendly or adjustable as late hubby was always watching his weight and fats (or at least I was for him). I prefer simpler 1 post, multi meal yield recipes and most of my recipes are set to yield at least 4 good size servings.
