I wondering about maybe grating some zucchini and trying to make a "crust" for this. Has anyone done anything like that before?

That I haven't done - let me know how it turns out... it should be ok...

I find that it comes out easily... depending on what you have put in it... even with the carrot and pepper pieces it came out easy enough - I guess the cheese holds it together in the pie part...

This Recipe

Postby NEWJERSEYGAL » Fri Feb 25, 2005 12:39 pm

Was sooooo good! I made it last night and I also added mushrooms and used 1% milk as it only called for 1/4 cup. I would make this again.

Thank you,

Christina

I'm thinking you could forget about the eggs/half & half etc and just use the meat to put on top of lettuce ? My mom loves sloppy joe meat on salad. Strange I know! Hmmmm.....possibility??

This was great!

I left out the Splenda, used ground turkey and added chili seasoning!
Fantastic on these rainy nights we are having in CA!

I've seen this recipe online as well (with the ff half & half) and tried it. It's one of my favorites and can be frozen/reheated. I substituted low-fat ground turkey for the beef (lots less grease).

Here is a very simple chili (I don't have time to cook):

1 lb. lean ground meat
2 cans black beans
2 cans stewed tomatoes (these are often sweeter than fresh!)
scoop of tomato paste (to thicken it)
herbs as desired

Brown meat, drain. Add black beans and tomatoes (you can squeeze them into smaller pieces beforehand). Mix and cook until heated. Add the paste to thicken about 2 big tbsp. at a time.

The first time I tried this, I LOVED it. I tried it tonight using ground turkey and black beans and it gave it kind of a chalky taste? Nobody in my family cared for it much. I guess I'll stick to the original and keep the beans on the side!

I use ground turkey (haven't tried adding beans) and it's never chalky. Next time stick with the turkey and skip the beans and I'm sure it will turn out great!

I finally made this recipe last night - my 10 year old daughter and I just LOVED it!! As I was making the meat mixture, she came in and said "Oh that smells SO good!" I actually doubled the recipe and I am SOO glad that I did. We had it with a big salad for dinner. Now today I have leftovers for lunch and I cant wait to have some more. This is a definite thumbs up!! :D

I made this recipe this afternoon. Made it early to heat up for dinner tonite after baseball...... I had no Worcestershire so left it out. Used ground turkey instead of hamburger, I had no celery, so added diced red, green and gold bell peppers. I also added a can of red kidney beans. It just now finished cooking. I have been "sneaking" bites and it is DELICIOUS!! Definitley a recipe that I will be keeping!! :D

I made this recipe but turned it into a Chili Dog Sloppy Joe pie. I added some chili powder and then added a few turkey hot dogs cut into small slices. Wow, was it ever good. We loved it.
