I just noticed that you posted this recipe one year ago today, Darlene. I'm sure glad you did, and I'm glad it got bumped up or I'd have missed it. I made these over the weekend and they turned up wonderfully. My husband kept saying, "You actually BAKED these?!" He loved them and so did I. Definitely a keeper.

my onion rings are in the oven. I love onion rings-thank you for the recipe. Is there any kind of dip I can have to go with them.(I know I am asking for a lot! lol) But I love the dip they serve w/ the bloomin onion at the outback. Has anyone ever made a sb friendly kind of one? LeAnna

I don't know about the dip with the Bloomin Onions. I have never had it.

However, there are a lot of dips in my recipe summary sticky under the Appetizer section. I am sure that you can find one suitable

I made these last night, and they were GREAT! I didn't have any cayenne pepper, so I figured I'd make up something else. I used a dash of chili powder and some Italian seasoning, and they turned out better than I expected.

Just adding this recipe to this onion ring link:

Crunchy Onion Rings, P2 [posted by surfer376]

2 egg whites
2 Tbl. skim milk
to taste seasoning without salt
2 c. whole wheat flour
2 c. skim milk
4 Tbl. dried whole wheat bread crumbs
4 med. Bermuda or white onions. cut into 1/4 inch slices and seperated into rings.

1. Slightly beat egg whites with 2 Tbl. skim milk in a small bowl. Set aside.

2. Mix seasoning into whole wheat flour in a small bowl. Set aside.

3. Pour skim milk into a small bowl and set aside. Pour bread crumbs into a small bowl and set aside. Arrange bowls in the following order: milk, flour, egg whites, and bread crumbs.

4. Dip onion rings into bowls in the arranged order. Lightly shake off the excess.

5. Bake on a nonstick baking sheet at 375 until tender, 15 minutes. Cool slightly and serve.

You could do a dip out of fat-free sour cream and mayo and add pretty much whatever you want.

I do find fat-free mayo that is made from only healthy oils - it tastes more like Miracle Whip [has that sweet tangy flavor], but it's not bad.

Mix maybe 1/2 cup of that with 1/2 cup of fat-free sour cream as your base. I made a tartar sauce type dip with those two ingredients, 1 clove of garlic minced very finely, some chopped capers, some lemon juice, parsley, and lots of pepper. Just add ingredients as desired.

For the bloomin' onion dip, I'd think adding a little Splenda, lots of paprika, and a little bit of cumin and cayenne pepper might get you close. Maybe a tiny bit of BBQ sauce too.

I love onion rings dipped in BBQ sauce.

That's a great idea...bloomin onion dipping sauce

Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons ketchup
2 tablespoons cream-style horseradish
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
Dash ground black pepper
Dash cayenne pepper

Make SB subs-looks like just the ketchup
