cheryl.. i have a question

Postby nycgirl14 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 11:21 pm

you said you did weight watchers while eating the right foods and saw results. i am an ex athlete, so it's hard to kick the habit of being calorie conscious, though even i would eat a snickers and then not eat dinner because i felt i had sinned. so... my question is as someone who while doing south beach is still trying to count, would you suggest weight watchers? i have been considering trying either the core or the flex plans while only eating south beach approved foods. what say you?? thanks!

i just thought it was funny how she teased me and told me i could never lose the weight while she was eating chips smarties and pizza and i was eating salads, but shes the one who lost in the long run. i guess thats karma for you.

Yeah, I can relate. All of my co-workers (who are considerably more overweight than I am) are doing WW and poking fun at me. I'll bring salmon and fresh veggies for lunch, and they're eating low fat Twinkies and tons of processed garbage. I'm drinking water and green tea, they're drinking Coke and counting the points.

Yuck. It'll be interesting to see how we all do.

You'll learn how to eat healthy and listen to your body's signals and needs. They'll learn how to count points and play "switcheroo food games". ;) There is more to "success" than the number on the scale!

Keep in mind what you are experiencing may not necessarily be insulin resistance.
1500 calories of "bad carbs" is not usually a lot of food, you get hungry sooner (because you are not full) and eat more (leading to weight gain)..... whereas 1500 calories of good SB food (veggies, lean protien, whole grains, etc.) can add up to quite a bit of food! (filling you up and keeping you feeling fuller longer.) Ultimately lowering your caloric intake in the long run. Helping you to lose.

I have been on weight watcher for over a year and I have lost 123 pounds. Now I am stuck on a plataeu and decided to start SB. I have good things to say about ww cause I have lost so much weight and they really do teach you that it is ok to eat brownies and stuff but you are not supposed to eat them all the time, it is only an occasional treat. But i am also a firm beleiver that not every diet works for everyone. Have a great day.

Just curious, but why start SB now?

Mom if I can put in my 2cents with your question... sometimes when you switch up your program i.e. eating or exercise it can jump start your weight loss again. Both my cousins and their mom have been successful on WW but sometimes you have to really adjust what you are eating even if you are staying within your points range. I would assume thats why they may have switched over...

sometimes we need to shake it up.
if the OP is stuck on a plateau SBD might just be what they need to fall off.... I think that Weight Watchers principles are good. i think that the flex plan went awry and folks lost the focus of getting healthy.

Core plan is similar to SBD but very few folks do it....

Oh!

WW didn't work for me. I gues because the last time I did it, they didn't explain the why's and why not's of certain foods and how they affect your body. I think that is why I like SB so much, because they give you the reason certain foods aren't the best for you. The Core Plan wasn't created yet the last time I did WW.

Anyhoo, scoobyfan, I'm glad you had such great success! BTW, I'm an AVID Scooby Doo fan. I set my DVR to record the old cartoon episodes and I always try to catch the Scooby Doo cartoon movies. My kids think I'm weird or something

BTW - Nessa, I'm feeling much better today. I have my appetite back and I'm coming out of my silent period :)

I run close to 80 miles a week. Believe me... there is a place for refined carbs.

Amazes me more than anything how everyone talks about which diet is best and they never consider their own lifestyles before choosing how they'll eat.

A bodybuilder needs protein.

A runner needs carbs.

A couch potato needs neither.

If you were to go buy a house, you'd buy a house that would suit your needs based on your current lifestyle... number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, total square footage, etc.

Eating is no different. Food is FUEL and you just have to figure out whether you're a four-cylinder or an eight.

The bigger the engine, the more fuel you need.

So, your friend is probably eating just fine. She just needs to get out the door and put one foot in front of the other.

ww

Postby springsm » Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:39 pm

To start a blog thread ripping apart a proven life changing eating program is rather immature I think. WW works for those who make it work. The program is sensible and very much like SB. I find that if you work at a program and believe in it ...it will work. It helps when it is healthy. Some of the comments I read showed that folks were NOT following it and definately misrepresenting it big time. However, if problems are being had with the plan or the plateaus..it wouldn't hurt to see your physician or a dietician. The Core plan is very sensible and it works. The flex plan has too much number following imo. South Beach makes sense too and it works well IF followed and maintained. Come on folks...WHY doesn't something work for some and not others. Could it be mind set, are we ready, pinching food on the side or negative behavior/attitudes. The ones to stay away from I think, are the ones that go totally one sided...all carbos or all protein, things like that. Good luck to each of you over the holidays. And may you all be successful not eating that which we shouldn't.

I don't know much about the diet but it seems it is too easy to make what you want of it. I think it can work. A friend of mine lost 85 pounds and even after falling off slightly (or not being as strict with it) for a month hasn't gained any back. It was definately the right diet for her. She tried SB and didn't like it. I think ever diet depends on the person and what works best for them.
