Is there another way?

Postby bluefrog » Thu Nov 24, 2005 12:06 pm

Just a quick question. I'm new here and just started the SBD so I apologise if I make an ass out of myself. I have had some success with hypnosis for other will powered based things and was wondering if anybody here has tried the SBD with hypnosis to bolster the effects?

If so, or not, I would love to hear your views and opinions as I am currently thinking of buying a CD set to help me with my diet.

I have started a Poll called, 'Do you think hypnosis would be beneficial in weight loss and the SBD' if anybody is interested.

Many thanks,

Bluefrog

Sb usually does a very good job of dealing with the physical causes of being hungry and overeating. It doesn't do much for the emotional and mental side of it other than if you aren't physically craving food, you may be less likely to succumb to your "comfort foods" when stressed. It teaches you how to eat well and healthily, but you still have to have the strength to stick to it through thick and thin. So to the extent you think hypnosis might help you deal with emotional food triggers, it might help you.

Actually I made my own self hypnosis tape to fall asleep to with the guidance of a registered hypnotherapist friend of mine for a LONG time. I didn't do it to lose weight or stave off hunger, I actually did it to help me with self projection and have a better self body image and it worked wonders. For those that have tried it and it didn't work - hypnosis does not work for everyone. You have to be 100% open to it working for starters. You can't be made to do something you wouldn't do in real life, you have to feel comfortable enough about your surroundings to "fall asleep" and feel completely safe, and you MAY have to try several different techniques to find one that works for you.

I've always believed in "mind over mater" if you will. Men and women to this day can "meditate" and cause their bodies to do/not do things we can't even conceive of (like not bleed when spikes are punctured through their arms or blister up from walking on hot coals.) And I've always believed that a positive body image not only helps you FEEL better about yourself but I KNOW at least for me when I worry about gaining weight, no matter what I eat, I typically gain weight. When I feel better about myself and respect myself I lose weight if that's my goal or maintain it if that's the desired case.

I say if you've had success with it in the past and you think it'll help you now then go for it! What's it going to hurt? Right? :)

some people may view it many times just to check in on the results. # of views doesn't necessarily equate to numbers of different people.

It could also be that people fall in between your choices. I'm very active in another thread that contains a poll but I just couldn't respond to the poll the way she had it set up. :?

I wouldn't actively seek out or pay a lot of money for hypnosis but I am open to the idea it could be used as a tool.
Just being on SB and having success is a form of self hypnosis for me.

To the world I probably project an overweight older woman but inside I feel so vital, young, and slim although I'm still a good 40 lbs overweight. After losing over 60 lbs, I feel positively light and athletic.

What I'm trying to say is, I feel I have psyched myself into believing in a slim healthy me. For years I could only see the obesity and felt self loathing and futility in ever trying to change thiings.
I get knocked down but I get up again. Nobody's going to keep me down!

i personally would not consider adding hypnosis to my efforts on sbd, but i chose "maybe" because it might work for you. i had/have issues with emotional and mental cravings that the diet isn't helping me deal with. if you're worried about those, i say the cd set probably won't hurt and could definitely help you feel more committed.

I've never tried hypnosis but my sister tried it to lose weight. It didn't work for her. So that is what I based my answer/vote on.

I tried it, and it did not work for me. I never told anyone that I was trying it just incase it didn't work. I paid a whole lot of money for nothing. I do know it has worked for some people, but like others have said I think it depends on the person. If you do decide to try hypnosis (seeing a professional), I suggest researching as many different clinics as they have offered in your area. I still believe that it wasn't necessarily me. I definitely was disatisfied with the service.

By the way, the place I went to all they did was give me tapes to listen to at night, and when I did come in I sat in a chair he left and I listened to another tape. I don't know if this is how all places are, but I'm sure you can find the tapes for a lot cheaper if you want to try that...

I voted No, but that's me, not a suggestion for others. I DO believe that mantras, visualization, basically - changing your internal dialogue about food and hunger is critical to changing behavior around food choices and eating style. I was able to do that without hypnosis. But others might not. And if hypnosis can help plant the seeds of a healthier internal dialogue, I see no harm in it.

I read this post before I logged in. I could see the poll results, but could not vote. I did log in after that, and I voted.
