New to the South Beach Way of Life

Postby WW2Rosie on Fri Jul 02, 2010 1:00 am

Hello All,
I am starting the South Beach Diet on Monday. I will be going grocery shopping this weekend and am a very picky eater. Any suggestions on what to buy or what to expect during phase 1.

Thanks
Sheri

Here are some great shopping ideas:

You also should check out the Phase 1 FAQ's - Please Read First Before Posting on the Phase 1 board - it has the real updated food lists. The blue tabs near the top of this page contain outdated food lists.

My basic advice for starting out is:
1. Clean out the junk food as much as possible given your living situation.
2. Look at the food lists and find some things that you will really like eating, especially veggies. Try a new one, too.
3. Check out the recipe board for chili recipes and make a batch to package in small portions for your freezer. They're great in a pinch with a salad.
4. Go shopping! Buy things for snacks that are easy to grab and transport - nuts, cheese sticks, etc.
5. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning and PUT YOUR SCALE AWAY! Phase 1 is about getting rid of your cravings. If you lose weight, great. Check the scale in one week.
6. Go for a walk or do some exercise.
7. Get in your dairy (milk and yogurt) and bean servings every day - they'll fill you up and give you energy.

Hi there! I'm also new to this new diet. I haven't started yet but to soon - just as soon as my contract is up for renewal and I can lower my hours. Then i should have time for exercise and the like. I really liked the info you gave on what to eat for a beginnner and I have been looking for a steady long term diet for a while now. Hopefully this will be the diet for me! Thanks for the post! :D
