It's an interesting read. People talk about how similar the plans are, but then marvel at the possiblity of eating a whopping "up to 100g net carbs on Atkins." That can be done on our p1.

Not sure we can get to that in "net carbs". But I surprised myself last week when I had that post where I got over 100 in total carb intake with P1 foods, although I did choose them fairly judiciously! ;) I was surprised that broccoli had that many actually. I do think 80-100 gms of total carbs is pretty easy in P1 if you want to work on utilizing all the available sources.

Judicious is important. :) Thanks for reading the post y'all and replying I appreciate it. I guess I wanted to show the "evolution" of where I'm at right now. I got myself SO brainwashed that carbs are bad that I guess I'm in a "transition" phase with how I'm eating. I still feel funny about it but so far so good. Looking more long term with all of this so if I don't lose pounds I'm fine. Simply maintaining and staying in control and feeling better is where I'm at.

Hey I think one of the top 3 fears here is transitioning to P2 and reintroducing new carbohydrate sources. Those who have success in P1 on the weight loss side of things, tend to make that "Carbs are bad" association and it's difficult at times to get people to either eat enough carbs from P1 sources in P1 and get them to reintroduce the new sources in P2. Which was the point of that other topic I referenced. A lot of people on SB P1 go into ketosis from not utilizing the available dairy, beans and vegetables and it isn't really supposed to be a ketogenic program!

I was kind of curious about why the link to the post on another board here though!

Yeh it was a little strange (and maybe lacking the correct protocol) for me to post that here but I was posting on there and transitioning to SB and posting here so it was weird. hhah a bit of overlap I guess.

I don't want to be on ketosis although I know it's a MAJOR fat burner so if need be I can always go into that "state". :)

You're DA BOMB Red, have a great day!

I once did a sample p1 menu that optimized "net carbs" and got to 99g. That didn't even include the trace carbs in things like a cheesestick, I don't think. So with trace amounts in other foods, 100g can be done.

For me to be at 99 net carbs I'd want those carbs to make up a pretty large percentage of what I take in (and have a lower protein & fat percentages) to give myself the right balance. 30 fat 30 protein 40 carbs, something like that. And those carbs are mostly made up of veggies & fruits (for all their natural health benefits!)

Just kinda what I'm thinkin'.

How cool I found this post ! :D I have been beaching it for the past 9 months and about 19 weeks ago got a bodybugg to help me track my exercise and the food I was consuming. Mainly trying to keep the "calories in vrs calories out" in check.
The bodybugg site has me enter all of my food daily into it...and it breaks down calorie count, proteins, carbs, etc.............and then it shows me a pie chart each day.
I have been a bit concerned because my "pie" always shows 40 to 45% as carbs (even though I know I am eating good carbs.........and the next biggest slice of my pie is fats (again, I know I am eating good fats)........so you post just helped me realize that maybe I am doing everything right ! :D
Since I have already asked our resident expert (Thanks Redrox) I now know Southbeach does not have a pie chart for me to check on............so I am just winging it.......but it seems to be working
Thanks again for this post !

Hi Joe, well I'm glad you like it! I use fitday.com which sounds like thhe same concept as your bodybugg.

My breakout is just something I'm going for. I'm not sure if SB has a recommended fat/protein/carb breakout. Like you, my carbs are good carbs so I don't mind being up around 40%. I'm trying to cut out some fatty protein that I've been eating and again have the majority of what I eat be veggie, fruit & nut carbs, plus keeping the calories in check.

It's an ongoing project but I think I'm in a good place. Some days it varies but life's about variety right!? Looks like you're doing great too, CONGRATS !
