Starting P2 tomorrow!...BUT curious...

Postby kassareevw » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:00 pm

Hi!

I have been on P1 for almost two weeks, one day shy. I'm curious though. I went to my doctor yesterday, and my weight has gone down 2lbs. The weird thing is, is that I can see and feel a total difference in my body. My stomach has gotten a lot smaller, face has slimmed down, my bum, as well as my thighs. I'm just confused, and totally elated at the same time. I don't understand how the scale would say -2lbs and yet I can see and feel sooooo much more then that. Any ideas?

There are all kinds of reasons the scale might not line up with actual fat loss. For one thing, it weighs everything without distinction - fat, muscle, bone, water, stomach contents, etc. If you happen to have more water or food in your system or have added muscle, the scale might not go down (or might go up) even if you have lost fat. Weight (on the scale) can fluctuate quite a bit. That said, you probably can't have lost too much actual fat yet unless you were very overweight to begin with. Most people don't lose more than about 1 or 2 pounds of fat per week.

But still, looking and feeling better and having your clothes fit better - that's real progress, and something to celebrate! :)

Thank you so much for your reply, that really makes sense. I am 5' 8" and started SB at 211. According to the scale yesterday, I am currently at 209. Is it normal to be able to see the difference? I just don't want it to be all in my head because I am feeling really good!!!

Well, feeling good is probably the best indictor you are doing something right! Not everyone notices a difference in appearance, but some people do. :)

Hi, best of luck with starting P2 tommorrow. Keep your food well planned and try and limit the carbs that you introduce. If you look and feel better you have made a great start. A lot of people have commented on how thin my husband looks and he has been on the diet about 8 weeks now. This has encouaged him to carry on. When people notice that you look different, keep that feeling when the diet becomes tricky it will spur you on. You will receive more comments etc.
Good Luck and well done
