why :(

Postby shellyrbil » Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:03 pm

I am so angry with myself. South beach works. I know it does; so why did I blow it? Stumbling across Atkins Choc Peanut butter advantage bars, I became addicted. I figured with only 1 gram of sugar, they would be my new dessert. Well, I just completely began pigging out on them. It tasted so good to eat chocolate and they had 19 grams of protein. Ugh! I am so mad at myself. Reading the ingredients, I know they are junk and bad for me and I have to stop which I will. My question is this: If I have 10 pounds to lose, should I go back to phase 1 (I rarely eat carbs...still stay away from fruits even...because they bloat my stomach) or do you think I can stick with phase 2? Should I make cut backs to lose the extra 10 pounds that eating these protein bars over the last few weeks have put on? Should I count calories? Summer is just around the corner. I want to get back to where I was with south beach. I am so sad. All my weight tends to go straight to my stomach....yuck...I look horrible. Please offer some advice. I want to be happy again. Shelly (lost 40 pounds - but gained 10 back :(

If this was the only item you were abusing, then I see no reason to go back to phase 1, as it is only to help you free yourself from sugar cravings.

I just looked this product's ingredients up. It is mostly soy and whey protein with some peanut butter and chocolate. Personally, I'd say that you could treat it as a protein. I'd eat half of one and have a half with some fruit or milk. Do the same with the other half for another snack. If you can do this, great! If you can't, then give them up.

As far as the 10 pounds you gained? So what. As long as you have resolved to moderate your intake of these bars or to abandon them, then you are fine. In fact, you are better than fine because you are 30 pounds lighter than you were before you started.

The past is 100% unchangeable. The future is 100% imagination. The present is the only point in time that we have any control over. Period. Live this and you'll be fine.

Mojo Jojo,
Thank you for your reply. I was really kicking myself and feeling completely down. Even though I regret my indulgence, it is so helpful to have someone care enough to write. I have two (12 bar boxes) of Atkins bars left and wish I could just eat half at one sitting and half at another, but I think I may need to pitch them...once I start I want another. You made my day...I am living your quote and enjoying this very moment. Thank you. Shelly

My pleasure.

You could always give the bars away or put them in the break room at work if allowed.

I agree w/ MOJO. Phase 2 unless you're fighting cravings. And EAT CARBS big bowls of healthy good carbs.
When I slipped, (I mean, totally faceplanted) it coincided with my refrigerator not being stuffed to the max with veggies ready to nosh on. I gained a bunch of lbs before I stopped eating out of cardboard boxes. So, I know YOU can step right off that dreadmill of doubt, stop beating yourself up with that umbrella, and forget about ...what did you call 'em... calories? :? : You're on the BEACH right where you belong. :D

I always suspected those Atkins people were evil

:) Bethy! Thank you. I had a horrible, horrible day and it has completely turned around. Just knowing there is someone who understands has changed my entire day! Cukes, celery and broccoli in the fridge. I wanted to take the bars to work...but I would have ate them at my first break. 24 bars in the trash. Good bye, Atkins. Life is a beach!

:) You are more than welcome. Keep us posted how it's going :D

When I'm vulnerable, which is only when I'm awake, it shores me up to have something Filling, Comforting, Plan Clean, and most importantly Already Cooked in my fridge. I don't know why but I can't stand to cook, heck I can't hardly be bothered to Slice, when I'm hungry. My go-to insurance food is a whole crockpot's worth of chicken chili with beans, into which I stir Fage yogurt. There's something about knowing that all I have to do is put it in a bowl and hit "1" on the microwave that keeps both my feet firm in the sand. When I have a week's worth I feel Rich. Today I have a day's worth and i sure hope I'm going to make some more tomorrow. I really have the gratification delaying skills of a five year old.

Just a thought, it may cost a bit more, but buy them individually. I have seen them sold out of the box. Just buy 2 or 3 at a time then maybe if you know you dont have several on hand you will eat them more sparingly:)

Buying one at a time is a great idea. I know I cannot buy them by the box any more.
I am not gonna let them get me...I feel so much better not having them in the house. This afternoon as I was sitting outside in the sunshine, I realized if they were still in my cupboard I would have eaten more. I smiled knowing that wasn't an option :)

My trick .... freezing the box of bars. You cannot "binge" on frozen bars :)
