I just had the most delicious apple

Postby kpattycake » Tue Sep 27, 2011 4:10 pm

With peanut butter even. This is phase 2 day 1. I weighed in this morning with a loss of 8 lbs. I am nervous about this phase, because I want to lose weight. I am scared with what I have read. Wish me luck. Any other phase 2 newbies?

You shouldn't be nervous because losing weight is what Phase 2 is all about. However, I think I understand where your fears are coming from and I think that it may be helpful to read the sticky link titled, Advice on Transitioning to Phase 2. Here's the direct link: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25541. The big thing to take away from this link in relation to your fear of transitioning into Phase 2 is this:

RedRox wrote:Hopefully after the past two weeks on P1 you have eliminated your cravings for simple carbohydrates. You may also have been fortunate to notice some weight loss as well. Some of this weight may have been fat; much of the weight was likely water.

This is because your diet over the past two weeks has not included grains and has been somewhat low on carbohydrates. This has depleted your glycogen stores.

Carbohydrates from fruit, bread, pasta, etc are converted into glucose (blood sugar) by your body and used for energy throughout the day. Glucose that is not used right away is stored by your body in your liver and muscle tissue in the form of glycogen. Several pounds of water are stored along with the glycogen. As you have depleted your glycogen stores, your body has released the associated water weight.

As you enter P2 and reintroduce carbs you may notice a slight jump in weight as your body replenishes its glycogen stores and some of the associated water. This is healthy and natural. It is NOT a sign that you are doing anything wrong by transitioning to P2!

Be sure to read the rest of the post from that link as there really is a lot of good advice in it. While I'm at sharing links, there's another thread right under that one called Phase 2 FAQ. Again, lots of helpful stuff. I'm not sure if you are going off the SBD book and if so which version. There were some revisions prior to and during 2005 and if you are like me and purchased the original book, you may have some outdated guidelines. I really like the section in that link about adapting your meal plan (templates). It helped me to learn what proper portions look like and unlike some other diets' emphasis on daily and weekly record keeping, I can carry this around with the greatest of ease completely inconspicuously (in my head).
now posting under the name of Mojo Jojo - please send pm's to that user name, thank you, Jon
