Egg noodles

Postby kalikalooti » Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:14 pm

Hello!

Please can someone tell me if egg noodles are ok for consumption in Phase 2, and if not, what's a good substitute?

Thanks a lot!

Noodles made with white flour aren't OK (the "egg" part doesn't matter). Some popular alternatives on SBD are whole grain noodles (100% whole grain, not "made with whole grain"), buckwheat noodles (100% buckwheat, not buckwheat plus some other kind of flour), or shirataki noodles. Shirataki noodles are actually OK in any phase. For a traditional American dish, whole grain is probably your best bet, since buckwheat or shirataki noodles are more commonly used in Asian-style cooking - although you can certainly experiment and see what you like! Best of luck to you -

Thanks so much, Magna!

I had never heard of Shirataki noodles, but just Googled it based on your suggestion - looks like just what I was looking for!

I've ordered some, and hope the taste lives up to all the hype there is on it online. They call it 'miracle noodles' here in the UK!

Just an early warning - the taste and texture of Shirataki noodles aren't exactly like regular pasta.

Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully it's not as bad as soba / buckwheat noodles. I hated those.
I'm happy as long as these are somewhat like Chinese egg noodles in taste and texture.

What about rice noodles? Or is that another name for the Sh- ones you just mentioned? Thanks :)

Shirataki noodles aren't the same as rice noodles. The rice ones are OK in phase 2 if they're whole grain. But shirataki noodles are OK in any phase.
