Will post more in-depth tonight, but must share my latest crazy idea.... it's either pure SB genius, or proof that all this healthy eating has turned me loco....

I am having a whole wheat mini pita with my soup for lunch. When I first bit into it, I was struck by how doughy it was... and a bit sweet on the outside, which got me thinking (my secretary sd she could literally see my wheels turning)

What if I stuffed the ww pita with some sf jelly or nsa pudding?!? A little drizzle of agave syrup and some purevia sprinkles on top (or sf coolwhip for a more creamy treat), and VOILA!!!

A SBD friendly jelly doughnut/bismark!!!

Am totally bringing some to work tomorrow! Will report back!

I've missed you all!!! On Friday night my internet went on the blink again (what is new) and is STILL not working. However, I just need to check in with you and say hello, well done, don't worry about the cheats, keep going, etc etc.... (on dial up so my verbosity will be curtailed!! )- One more thing.... welcome Fed up , so happy you have come over to our group..
Right so lots of happy news. two exams down, both went fine. one more on thursday, then i have quite a few days off before my next one..... and no stress eating, it is all good!! Another bit of amazing news, i am down some more weight. Infact not my usual 300g which I hilarious but a tad frustrating, this week I was down 1.3 kgs (I think) anyway I am just 800 grammes off my next mini goal ($20 on plants for our garden) So far I have lost 9.2 kgs, how awesome is that;-) yay. I have been keeping a food diary and my exercise has been going quite well, I even have run (horrors!) a few metres. OMG, walking endorphins are different to running endorphins, it is amazing!!
Saturday 31/10
Exercise: nothing
B: poached egg on whole wheat toast, tomato
MS: toast and a peach
L: 3 Thai fish cakes (sbd friendly), 2 cups lettuce, cucumber and red onion
AS: white bean brownie, made with xylitol not splenda
D: 1 cup roasted veggies, before we went out to watch cricket
ES: a large green salad with feta cheese
Sunday 01/11
Exercise: 1 hour walk (with some running, approx 5 minutes)
B: whole wheat toast, ¾ cup roasted veggies and feta mashed on toast, 1 small banana
MS: none
L: morocco chicken breast with chick pea/grated cucumber/mint/yoghurt salad
AS: brownie and peach
D: red lentil curry on a bed of cabbage relish - 1 hard boiled egg, ff yoghurt and light chutney
ES: none
Monday 02/11
Exercise: 35 min walk
B: piece ww toast with feta and roasted veggies
MS: ½ chicken breast, banana chips
L: celery and 1 T peanut butter
AS: nothing
D: ham, gem squash, cabbage relish (the last of it!) , green beans

Oh one more thing before I forget, Paula B you wanted to know how I do my roasted veggie. It sure is no rocket science  , you might want to adapt yours. couple of tablespoons olive olive - coat the following vegs: aubergine (chopped quite large chunks - salt and rinse it before) , courgettes, butternet, red onions, patty pans (summer squash???), tomatoes (only quarter those as they shrink alot - they give moisture so i always put those in) loads of garlic (if you like!) scatter fresh rosemary all over and cover in tin foil , bake for half an hour. a tip is to cut quick cooking veggies a bit bigger, or slow cooking veg a bit slower..... i use them for everything - cold to put on salads, pureed to put in omelette, hot with dinner, room temperature in a pasta salad (then I would add a bit of balsalmic, fresh basil, sundried toms, olives and toss)
right must sign off before i cannot afford to pay my phone bill!!!!!
xxx see you all as soon as i can and sending you all lots of happiness for the week aheadxx

Late morning to all. A bright and sunny and COLD day here in the midwest. I am happy to see the sun almost regardless of the temperature. doghouse, glad to hear your exams are going well. cj I think the stuffed pseudo jelly donut may just be a bit too much. PaulaB, I had bunion surgery when I was 12. Did not find the recovery all that bad and I'm sure the process is a lot better now. I wasn't on crutches very long although had a funny big fat shoe for quite a while and did manage to get out of swimming in gym class for the semester.

Cassie's visit to the vet was not encouraging. Her kidney function, even with the hydration, was poor, her diabetes is showing again and her potassium levels were too low. So now it's insulin two times a day on top of everything else and prepare for the worst going forward. All we can do is make the kitty happy for whatever time she has left. My visit to physical therapy was better and I actually left feeling better than when I went in (which is a good thing because I was in a decent amount of pain when I got there). Today feels even better. Hopefully this bodes well for the future. Still supposed to take it really easy. Ended up eating dinner out at Panera (Caesar salad with grilled chicken and WW bread) because everything took too long yesterday and couldn't prep dinner.

Today we have a minor election so have to go vote. School board, township officials, 3 statewide voting initiatives and a local initiative to fund tornado sirens. You would think that living in the midwest we would already have sirens but no. And there are people actually against this because it will be a tax. Go figure. Without a siren I could never convince H not to stand outside the front door and admire the bad weather.

Today's meal plan:
B - omelet with mushrooms and some lf cheddar cheese
MS - hummus and 2 mini WW pita
L - leftover pork, squash and white bean stew
AS - jicama salad, kiwi, string cheese
D - yesterday's plan of flank steak, roasted brussel sprouts, leftover brown rice and some other veggie.

More excitement, my internet it working.... but now the dilemma.... So you think you can dance is about to start so I will be torn away for that.. I promise I am not a telly addict, there are just a few shows i enjoy watching every week! anyway, i meant to say Paula B - about 15 minutes before cooking time is finished removed the foil so that the vegs go nice and roasty.... that was quite important  anyway, while I am on line I might as well post what happened today as i will be hitting the sack early tonight. this morning i had to take the dog out at 4 am and then i could not get back to sleep so made myself a pot of tea and did some last minute cramming

Exercise: 40 min walk, with some running
B: roasted veg and feta omelette
MS: 1 banana
L: red lentil curry, tomato, chilli, onion, coriander salsa and ff yoghurt
AS: celery and small piece of ham
D: herbed bream, with salsa, cucumber and red onion salad
ES: fake mochaccino and a peach

sending you a hug Sharon O and Cassie a stroke.....

Good afternoon, everyone!

The doughnut experiment has been delayed a day... got home late last night and was getting things done around the house. Lots of rearranging going on!

Doghouse-- glad you're back! Sending lots of smart vibes for you & your husband to do well on your exams!

Sharon-- Hope the foot continues to improve and that you can figure out how to best take care of Cassie.

Yesterday was a good day. Hectic, but good. My apartment is starting to feel less cluttered. I've rented a storage space and will be putting things into storage this weekend. I''m not ready to move into a bigger place, but I'm definitely outgrowing my apartment a bit. It's starting to come together nicely, though. I've got my eye on some new chairs for the dining room....

Had a very emotional but productive conversation with my sister about stuff last night. That girl can just go on and on for hours sometimes. I feel bad, but I sometimes just have to cut her off, because with everything else in my life, sometimes it just gets to be too draining.

Last night was bowling, and tonight should be my last regular season softball game, with playoffs scheduled (I think) for Friday. Our league is fairly disorganized, so who knows?!?

Yesterday's Meals:
B: yogurt w/fruit (frozen 3 berry blend from costco... YUM!), sandwich thin, V8, vitamins
MS: none
L: leftover mexican chicken veg soup, mini pita, 8 oz. skim millk
AS: string cheese, apple, pistachios
D: leftover chicken/leeks, zucchini/sundried tomatoes, ww couscous, skim milk
ES: none

I also put some diced avocado and regular cheddar (it's a raw organic cheese... so good!) in the soup. Sometimes I'd rather have a smidgen of the really good stuff as opposed to a big handful of the lowfat cheese. Also added cilantro.

Have a great day, everyone!

Sounds yummy! I've never tried it with rosemary.

For those of us in the US:
aubergine = eggplant
courgette = zucchini
pattypan - not sure if there's a common name in the US - maybe sunburst squash or scallop squash or white squash or scallopini?

butternet - I assume this means butternut squash, which is a starch, so that would be your grain/starch for the meal
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.

It's sold under a variety of names, but "pattypan" is the most common one I've seen. Here's what it looks like (green variety):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattypan_squash

Trader Joe's sells plastic bags of baby pattypan squash (yellow and green mixed - might be seasonal). With the baby squash you don't usually have to remove the stems because they're so tender. You can cut them in half, but I usually saute them whole. It is great sauteed in olive oil with plenty of salt, pepper, and some rosemary. It's also an easy, nice looking, and tasty hors d'oeuvre for parties (saute, serve cold with toothpicks). Your non-SBD friends will gobble it up.

It's a summer squash, so it should be okay as a p1 vegetable, even though it's not specifically on the list for p1, don't you think?

Yes, definitely.

BTW, for anyone who might want to know the difference, summer squashes are those types with an edible peel and seeds - such as zucchini (courgette), yellow squash, or pattypan squash. Winter squashes have a hard rind and seeds, and are starchier. Some of the many varieties are butternut, acorn, and hubbard. The only type of winter squash that's appropriate for phase 1 is spaghetti squash. But they're all healthy foods, so don't be shy about trying them. :)

Most winter squash, as well most root vegetables, are included in the p2 starch list along with the grains, so make sure you aren't replacing your p1 veggies with those starch choices, and that you're keeping in mind the restrictions on grains/starches. The bulk of our diets should still consist mostly of the p1 vegetables.

Hello all and thanks for all the welcomes. I too am in a hurry but wanted to at least say a few things. I will soon be able to keep up with all the things that are going on with yall. I will quickly say that I really enjoy reading everyones posts and it has been great inspiration. It keeps me focused and reminds me that everyone has things going on. In my life right now, we are trying to get our house ready to put on the market and a lot of my evenings after work is spent decluttering. I am quite the pack rat!! I have lived in my house for about 5.5 years but has acquired a lot of things that I should have thrown away a long time ago. Hubby doesn't seem motivated to help but I do nag him to do things and he reluctantly starts helping. I Have two daughters aged 10 and 6 and its difficult keeping their room clean. I am tired most nights which isn't good because I haven't been exercising like I should. I would usually go in the mornings but my mom is on a cruise this week and she usually picks my daughter up from school but now I have to go to work extra early so that I may get off to pick her up. I work 45min from home so its not like I can go back to work. After this week, I should be good with exercising. My biggest challenge is probably writing down what I eat. Which I'm sure that yall will help me with. Well, I will have to post more tomorrow if not too tired. Yall have a great night and a good SB day tomorrow!!

‘morning everyone. Apologies for not posting yesterday, just one thing after another at work; and to top it off it was a bad hair day and I had a video conference to attend. Today is not much better so I am posting this without reading any of today’s posts. Did notice Fedupofbeingfat's post, thanks for posting! Don’t know if I’ll be able to post tomorrow either.

Thank you for your recipe Doghouse. Love all the comments on the recipe. Looks like something new for dinner tonight. I’ll let everyone know what we think. It sounds wonderful and yummy though. Hope Cassie and hydration make a good team, good luck finding fancy treats to make the job easier.

My sister is having the heart procedure done tomorrow, so I’ll be taking the 1st ferry across to the mainland (6:30 AM) and spending the day with her. I have a good book to read and I think a Serious Coffee or Starbuck’s is near by.

So: Yesterday’s meals:
B: 3x3/turkey bacon
MS: steel cut oats/sliced almonds/1apricot chopped
L: lentil bean chili
AS: edamame hummus/zucchini sticks
D: baked chicken/BB soup/apricot calfoutis(sp?) (Omanni’s recipe)

Today’s meals:
B: 3x3/turkey sausage
MS: steel cut oats/apricot chopped
L: lentil/bean chili
AS: yellow pepper/almond butter
D: pork chop/carrot-turnip/Doghouse roasted veggies

Tomorrow (traveling)

Hi everyone. cjmeller and paulab - what GREAT sisters you are.... hope tomorrow goes well for yours paula, and cj, well i am just sending you so much respect - my beloved mum was a bit like your sister by the sounds of it... love them madly and want to help desperately by listening to all their issues , but sometimes it all just gets toooooo much. and do they listen anyway when advice is asked for and given.... well my mum didn't, but i did know that when i first opened my mouth. having said that i am so happy we talked, we listened/heard!! and we were close. all worth it really but I do understand why you feel you need to cut her off from time to time. totally understandable to me.
i was laughing that my bad typing in the recipe (of sorts) created some question marks, it is butternut squash! net - not! pb, i was just wondering if parsnip and carrots and buttenut at one meal might be too much for you (as you are so good about quantities etc - me I would just do it and enjoy!) but I remember from other diet I did for many years, all those veg were considered 'heavy' as opposed to 'free' - i think sbd calls them starchy veg. anyway as i said i am sure it will be okay, but if you do feel a bit peckish, that COULD be the reason. having said that, sometimes i do add in sweet potato to the mix and it does not seem to affect me..... (editing to say..... having just re-read Kimboroni's(sorry if i spelt that wrong too) post I see she articulated what I was trying to say.... I wish I had that full screen option!)
Wednesday 04/11
Exercise: nothing
B: oyster mushroom and parmesan omelette
MS: hummus and celery
L: whole wheat toast, 1 slice ham, 2 t mayo, plenty salad, 1 orange
AS: some illegal dates! :( and they were not even that fresh..... tut tut
D: thai fish cake to start, then ½ peri peri chicken breast with plenty of salad, white wine (i actually have a glass most nights)

Hi Everyone,
Good thoughts to the "sisters", and to "Cassie" too. Aren't you blessed to have them in you lives?
I actually got my first compliment today! I was so excited I had to tell you all!
A teacher in my building asked me if I was losing weight! She said she thought I was looking much thinner!
Wow! I told her all about SB, and about all of you too! How grateful I am to have my personal "support system"! Thank you everyone!
Anyway, I'm feelilng pretty good right now, even though I still have about fifty more pounds to go! I guess the longest journey really does start with a single step.

Today's meals:
B-oatmeal with 1/2banana, tomato juice
MS- celery- P-nut butter
L- Salad, LF cheese stick, SF Jello
AS- V-8 juice
D- chili, LF cheese, maybe a few Triscuit crackers

Talk with you soon ladies. Have a good evening!
