No, it's not low carb even in phase 1. The carbs don't come from starchy or sugary foods, but you should be eating plenty of good carbs in the form of vegetables, beans and other legumes, and milk or yogurt.

You can easily get 100+ gms of carbs daily during P1 if you use all the available sources. At those levels you are well outside any "low carb" program. Do most people implement it as a low carb program. Probably but that is more the fault of the person not either understanding the program or the real purpose of P1, or choosing not to eat the more carb dense foods available to them, or simply approaching it as a "diet" rather than as the foundation of a lifelong healthy eating program. I've always thought of it more as "smart" carbs instead of "low carb". That's the way I always used to describe Sugarbusters and South Beach sounds very similar to that way of thinking.

I need some help here, we did Phase 1 for three weeks and lost weight, which was great. Now on phase 2 for one week we have gained weight. Would this be normal when you start to reintroduce carbs.
We are only have carbs twice a day and a fruit. Is this adding to much.

Hi, well done for starting the plan. As far as I know, you're meant to add just one thing at a time - fruit or grain, so if you or your body react strangely, you know the culprit. Also the thread you're on has only had about 12 posts in 5 years, so start a new post in the Phase 2 section maybe. Also, you're bound to put on a little water weight at the beginning anyway, as you slowly introduce fruit and grain back into your diet. However, in the long term, stick to the plan and you will lose weight gradually XX
