Postby reneeiris » Wed Apr 25, 2012 2:42 am

Hello. my DH and I are on day 2. I cannt find any information on whether some food items are allowed. 1. nutritional yeast flakes ? 2. ground turkey( lean, white meat) can i make meat patties( without grains)? my DH is missing dark chocolate, but we avoid artificial ingredients, any suggestions? I have an old book and newer guide book, but i cannt find those items. thanks for your help.

I don't know about nutritional yeast flakes. ground turkey breast is fine. dark chocolate is Phase 2 only. The first topic on the phase 1 discussion page "Phase 1 FAQs" has the expanded food list and a lot of answers about specific foods.

As a vegetarian, I have had nutritional yeast in many of my foods. It adds great flavor and is fairly healthy. However, I dont knowif it is allowed. Check the label. What are the sugars, carbs? I know it is sometimes made from beet pulp and glucose. Which raises a red flag.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

thanks. the nutritional flakes are from KAL( got at whole foods). grown primarily on molasses. 1 gram fat, 0 sugars , 9 grams protein, 5 g. fiber. total carbs.14 grams for 1 serving 3 tablespoons. I am also primarily a vegetarian. i read that seitan was acceptable in phase 1, but its made from wheat. i thought that wheat products were a no-no on phase 1. is there a good book source for vegetarian subs? what do you think of the dr.'s newer book, faster weight loss and better health for life or super charged( or are they the same book). thanks again for the support and glad to be onboard.

Yea, I think seitan is a no-no. I used to eat it till I stopped eating wheat products all together. I do like Tempeh though, if its made right. It sounds like the flakes are ok. Hopefully someone else will weigh in who knows for sure:)

Seitan is on the list of acceptable protein foods (any phase).
