Moving to Phase 2 tomorrow

Postby autumn8297 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:03 pm

And I will do my weekly weigh-in/measurements tomorrow as well. I have felt so good and done so well on Phase 1, I am a little nervous moving to Phase 2. I decided to make apple my transition food. I can tell the difference in my clothes and have to repeatedly tell myself that it will be OK if I gain a pound or so back will doing this transition. Anyone used apple?

Apple is a good choice. Just remember, going into P2 is supposed to be a gradual shift, not all at once. Read the thread in the P2 forum about transitioning. You'll do well! Congrats on making it thruogh P1.

Thanks Mike. From reading all the info, it seems we choose one food, try it for a week at the same time every day and see if we have cravings right? If we do have cravings, do we drop that food and choose a new one the next week? Also, I am reading a book on hypothyroidism by Mary Shomon and she suggests that it is better to stick to 3 meals and no snacks as that 5-6 hour gap between meals is supposed to get the body into some fat burning mode...anyone heard about that? I have kept with my 3 meals and 2 snacks and feel good about my weight loss...if it ain't broke don't fix it. But I was curious if anyone else had heard that.

(shrug)

The snacks keep me from getting hungry. I am losing weight (today being an exceptionally bad day to pick as an example) eating three snacks. I do understand other plans tell you to let your body's metabolism move up and down in a rhythm. Others tell you to eat two meals a day, others say six small meals.... the big secret is the may all be correct. You have to do what is right for you, with medical guidance if appropriate.

All I can say is this is working for me. But speaking only for myself as a diabetic whose blood sugar gets LOW at times on SBD, I cannot imagine being able to do SBD long with no snacks to manage things.

Why not give SBD a try the way it's drawn up? Make sure you get plenty of exercise -- that will help with the fat burning! And exercise is an undercommented-upon but essential part of SBD.

As for the transition, some folks pick one food for a week, some pick two (a grain and a fruit for instance) and have one one day, the other the next. Then the next week either try something different as a replacement or add something to the rotation. It's a matter of preference. Just watch portions and monitor how your body feels with each thing you try.

Thank you, that was such a thoughtful reply and gives me a clearer idea of how I want to manage my menu for the next few weeks. I feel like I am losing at a pace that suits me so I don't think I am going to give up snacks. I don't feel I need them (in terms of keeping hunger at bay) but like I said before, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)
