Can't lose weight on the SouthBeach!!!

Postby tarabecky » Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:21 pm

So, I was on the Southbeach diet's Phase 1 for the 2 weeks like you are suppose to be. I stuck to this thing without cheating and being so good. I just knew I was gonna lose weight but to my surprise I only lost 3 little, tiny pounds. So I went on it for another week, no weight loss. I am seeing no results through Phase 2 either and I am so discouraged. I just had a baby 13 weeks ago and I so badly wanted to lose my baby weight. Unfortunately, the weight is staying. I am active and behaving on this diet, I just cant seem to lose. I am 38 years old and 5'2" tall. I weigh 153 pounds. I cry everyday about this. I am so desperate to lose weight it's ridiculous. Could someone please help me? Is this not the diet for me ? Maybe someone has a suggestion for other diets. The Atkins is no good for me, as I get so sick with it. The Southbeach is more ideal for me but I just am not losing with it. By the way, I do drink lots of water. I know that's where some people mess up. Please, help.

The first thing I notice is that you said you lost three pounds in two weeks, which is great! Then I see you are discouraged because you think you are not losing any weight. But you lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks - that's something to be happy about.

You said you were on SBD "without cheating" for two weeks then stayed on it another week. Were you in phase 1 for 2 weeks, and then did you move to phase 2? It might help us to give you some suggestions if you were to post some more information, such as a sample menu showing what you eat in a typical day now (including amounts and anything you might have added to the food, such as oil or condiments).

I've seen a lot of people talk about how fast they are losing weight, and it seems to be very dependent on things like age, sex, overall health, any health conditions, level of exercise, how much weight you have to lose, etc. It can vary quite a lot. And it doesn't necessarily happen steadily or predictably - sometimes the same person will lose weight quickly and sometimes slowly. The important thing is to keep eating a healthy diet and keeping active. You should also be sure to check with your doctor about your eating plans.

Welcome, and best of luck to you! :)

First of all I hope you are still around! We have so much in common we need to be diet buddies! I too am 38 years old and just had a baby June 30th, so about 4 months ago! I am also 5'2" but I weigh 170, well 165.5 now. So I weigh MORE than you do. :?

I agree with Magna. it is so hard to predict and I KNOW it is hard to stick with it but if you do it WILL work. I had the same thing happen the first time I did this diet but then all of a sudden - boom - 5 lbs in one week. It is just the way it goes. Also, if you post meals, I agree with Magna, there may some areas you don't see that you could do differently. Also, are your clothes fitting differently? And we really are fairly close from having our babies still so our bodies are still changing hormonally, and physically from that. You really need to give yourself a break. Are you breast feeding?

Okay so I hope you stick around. In answer to your other question, I honestly believe this is the best diet. I am biased because it HAS worked for me. But it is healthy and over time you just feel better overall.

Good luck!!! See you around ...
Uh oh ... I stepped away from the BEACH. 5 yrs and two babies later ...
SBD Since 1/3/06 and now again 2/12/10 and again 10-22-11 (1 MORE baby later!!)

Tauxania mentioned a good point - if you are nursing, you should start in phase 2, not phase 1. But be sure to consult with your doctor - your doctor is really the expert here.

It can take up to a year, sometimes longer for some women, to return to their pre-pregnancy metabolism and hormone balance. Go easy on yourself !

the only thing I have found hard about this diet is,some days it takes so much work not to eat something sweet-for me even just a bite sends me in sugar crave that won't stop.I crave sugary stuff all the time! But I have been really good and not caved in.

Justine:

YES it works -- and it is PERSISTANCE that matters -- also Phase I is only a two week period to get rid of sugar cravings and pretty much reset your body's ability to recognize real hunger from a desire for sugar (which is on so much processed food)

If I sound like i know -- well yeah -- I lost 60 pounds and was in great shape. That was very good as I had the health necessary to overcome an acute illness that attacked in 2011 and left me pretty badly off for about 18 months -- during which I admit I coddled myself with ice cream, burgers, fried food, rice dishes, and spaghetti, oops...

But i am back and i know once i get through the 2 week Phase I it is just a matter of slowly increasing my stamina and exercising.

What helps more than anything -- and this has been proven time and again -- is a support system. And often it is from folks in the same 'boat" -- since family and friends are not always the best to confide your diet worries, rants, and even victories to. Sharing here makes all the difference.

GO TEAM 2013!

Justinlee It work ex for me - hubby and I lost 7% total weight. My brother lost 15% weight. We have been doing phase 3-2 back and forth the last seven years to keep up with weight. Every so often when we gain weight or have been eating bad we go back to p2. I need to loose 5% of weight and am back on p1 bc I need a bit more help. I think it's worth a try.
