Trying South Beach After A Decade

Postby WavyGirl23 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 10:37 pm

Hello!
I tried SBD way back in 2003 as a way to lose the freshman 15. It worked --yay- and I've had pretty decent eating habits since. In the past year, my cravings and stress eating have returned. Blame it on life or food delivery services, I don't know.

I'm ready to try again. I have 25 pounds to lose. Today is my first day on phase 1.

Welcome to the message board, WavyGirl23. There's a lot of VERY useful info here. I especially like the recipe section. Just tried the Fudgesicle recipe, and loved it!

Wishing you every success as you follow the SBD again.

Hi- I had much success on SB when I was in my early 30s. Now I am 43 and need to do at least 30 pounds (early 30s it was 10). I am now older, working 60 hours week and basically running a taxi service for my two kids. I need help with quick meals and any suggestions for breakfast or lunch for Phase 1. I really want to succeed again. Any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome! :)

For quick meal ideas, there's a big recipe area you might want to check out. They're not organized by prep time, but if you're looking for a particular type of dish (soups, chicken, etc.) they're good for that.

For breakfast ideas, here are some discussions you might want to take a look at.

Hi 43andholding,

Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty new here (Started a month ago) and retired, so I don't have suggestions for quick meals. I have found that I can custom order salads at all of the restaurants I frequent, so that may help you when you find yourself eating out.

This program works really well for me... Exactly as Dr. Agatston described in his SBD book. I hope you have similar experience.

Best Wishes
Geo

OMG ... I'm 53 ... back on SBD after 15 years lax ... I've gained 50 lbs and really want to loose it!!! I just wrapped up week one of Phase 1, and my weight has stalled for the last 3 days. I lost 3.8 lbs and now nothing. Just staying there for 3 days and feeling very discouraged. I've read all the blogs about not eatting enough - eatting too much - not enough water - and I'm doing everything as I should. No cheating. Just feeling frustrated. I read success stories everyday to try and stay motivated. It's a struggle though. It's so depressing to me that I'm OVER 200 lbs and it's soooo solidly in place that it just won't budge. Trying to tell myself it's a lifestyle change. And I DO feel better. *heavy sigh*. I'm just afraid it's my age and I'm doomed to be overweight FOREVER. *drama queen* lol

I'm going to be back. I am starting South Beach on May 1st (after my birthday). Just getting re-oriented to how things go, and starting to meal plan. When I did SB the last time I was with my ex-husband who didn't support me, so I had a hard time staying committed. This time my husband is excited to do change our eating together :) I was able to loose 50lbs

I am glad to see some people still on here, seems like a ghost town compared to 10-15 yrs ago. Just really glad it's still here, since it is an amazing forum to help keep motivated!!!!

Welcome back! :D

As slow as the activity is now, it's much busier than it was last year. Unfortunately we have had bad spam attacks, so new users' posts all had to be pre-approved. That has slowed things down quite a bit.

I've hung in there. One more day on Phase 1 and then I move onto Phase 2. I've only lost 5lbs in two weeks on phase 1, and yesterday actually gained 1/2 a lb (trying to not get discouraged by that - most likely water weight and all). Tomorrow will be the "official" weigh to see the final results for Phase 1. I know it's not about "weight loss". But honestly- that's why I'm doing it. Yes - I will get all the healthy benefits - which I really do want. But I want to feel sexy in this body again!!!! Luckily I'm with a super supportive man who always finds me sexy and is also super supportive with cooking South Beach meals. Honestly - gotta just love him to death!!! It just is going so slow!!! But I tell myself - I am 5lbs lighter than I was 2 weeks ago - so just hang in there. It just really seems this last 20 came on so fast and is coming off soooo slow!! Ok - enough whining!!! A lot of positives. I have NO cravings and am fairly happy with my choices of what to eat. I own 3 South Beach cookbooks and there is always the Internet. Heading to Oklahoma in a week to bring my baby home from her freshman year college. The meals might be a challenge there ... but I shall try to stay strong.
