Hunger and drinks

Postby FanQuia » Fri May 18, 2012 4:38 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to SB Diet, starting on Monday. I've no issue with some types of foods. I make the odd mistake i.e forgetting and putting sugar in the coffee (only once), but i'm managing to exercise, i'm not tired or miserable etc etc or barking because i've missed the odd glass of wine.

I'm always hungry, even after a full plate full of food and i can't stand the drink alternatives so i'm turning into a water boy...

Any tips would help... TQ

First, welcome!

Now, if you are still hungry after a full plate of permitted foods, try eating more permitted veggies! Also, make sure you are getting enough fluids -- smoe folks seem to feel hungry when what their body needs is really hydration, especially if you are working out more than you're used to. Another idea - make sure you are getting your snacks in -- they are REQUIRED in P! to help regulate blood sugar levels.

If you post a few days' meals someone may have specific suggstions.

Are you getting your added good fats? All fats help with satiety, but we need to choose the heart healthy good fat options for SB, like canola oil, olives, avocado, etc.

Thank you for the replies

Just had dinner, this is kind of typical of an evening meal.

two poached eggs with added olive oil, 9 apparagus spears, mushrooms, onion, half a head of broccoli, small loin of pork, garlic, two slices of cheese and a small bottle of water.

Snacks tend to be cherry tomatoes.

Hmm, that does look like it could be a lot of food. What else are you eating throughout the day? Can you give a typical rundown?

Mike's point about not mistaking thirst for hunger is a good one as well.

Do you continue to be hungry up until the next time to eat? They say it takes 20 minutes for being full to register with your brain.

I've just had breakfast this morning;

Omlet; two eggs, mushrooms (cooked in olive oil) and mixed salad. A coffee and a class of water.

In between breakfast a lunch i'll drink water and have snack of 3 cherry tomatoes.

Lunch today; lean frying steak cooked in olive oil with mixed salad, pepers, feta cheese, balsamic and a bottle of water.

In between breakfast and lunch i'll drink water and have snack of 3 cherry tomatoes.

Dinner this evening i'm not sure yet

I better add, after breakfast this morning i'm still hungry

Couple things:

3 cherry tomatoes does not a snack make. Try a handful, maybe add some protein such as a string cheese, cottage cheese, or some nuts (a serving of nuts is 1oz and you can have one serving per day). Think of snacks as mini-meals.

I see none of the good starches and if you don't include these at all you will likely go into ketosis which you want to avoid. Good starches are dairy (milk or yogurt, up to 2cups/day) and beans (1/2cup per serving, may have more than one servings a day - at different times of the day - such as one for breakfast, one for snack, one for dinner.

Try to get your 2 cups of milk or dairy every day. Can you get canned beans instead of the dry ones that take so much prep time?

A minor quibbling point, but dairy isn't a starch. Carbohydrates = starch, sugar, and fiber. So it's the sugar in dairy that puts it in the "carb" category, not starch.

I totally agree about eating more (and more balanced) at snacks-- good improvement on that so far!

Thanks Kim

Before you posted I included a glass of milk rather than having milkly coffee. I avoided the milk drink because i thought i wouldn't like it.. i was wrong, i prefer it better than milky coffee and a full fat milk drink.

The first day of introducing chickpeas etc I purchased a can and several bags of dries peas/beans. After using the tin, i've now got a supply of a variety of beens either soaked or ready to be soaked.

Even with all these great tips, i'm still hungry... Although the tips so far haven't been towards the drink issues, that is the one area that has imporved with switching from coffee to milk

I'm still not sure how much you eating of everything, but go ahead and eat more veggies if you're still hungry.

I'm not sure what the question is on beverages. I don't drink soda pop or coffee, so I just drink water and milk, and occasionally tea. It sounded to me like you were figuring out the drink issue okay by drinking water, so I didn't offer any suggestions there.
