Week One - Why only 1.8 lbs?

Postby ChrissyinAZ on Sat Nov 07, 2009 5:04 pm

Hi guys :D Im new to the SB diet and I am on day 5 with about 1.8 lbs down. I may be doing something wrong but I have stuck to the foods allowed. I have had no sugar, juice, fruit or carbs whatsoever! From what I have read and seen on different boards, the weightloss is a lot more than this in the first week or two. Im trying to not get discouraged, maybe Im having too much olive oil when I make my turkey meatballs or too much unsweetened cocoa in my ricotta cheese. Any ideas or advice for a newbie? I will read through the other posts over this weekend and find more motivation throgh your stories and advice.

How much do you have to lose? If you have to only lose 10,15, or even 20 pounds to get to your goal/ideal weight, it will be harder for you drop the pounds faster compared to someone who have 100 pounds to lose.

Phase 1 weight loss is mostly water weight anyway. Phase 2 is the real weight loss stage, and though it may by slow (1 pound a week), it is the healthy way to lose and it will be easier to maintain in the future.

Be like me and stay away from the scale! Your weight fluctuates tremendously and if you weigh yourself everyday, you are going to see a lot of different number that might disappoint you. Weigh yourself once a week or once every two weeks in the morning after you use the washroom and use those weights as your guide, NOT your daily weigh-ins.

Good luck and we are here to support you!

All good advice above! Please don't get frustrated by scale movement or lack therof! P1 is more about normalizing blood sugar levels in your system and getting it prepared for the "real" lifestyle program of P2! Also if you like, you can post what you are eating with quantities and timing throughout the day and evening. Sometimes you can overeat on the more calorie dense items like nuts and cheeses and undereat on the low calorie dense items like veggies. The meal planning template linked into the P1 FAQ sticky topic can also help with arranging SB friendly foods into a more coherent daily menu. Sometimes people are eating all the right foods in not so great proportions and that can be part of the issue as well. But likely maybe you just were eating healthier beforehand or don't have as much to lose as someone else or any other number of reasons. Everyone is unique and loses at their own rate and in their own time. Enjoy the SB adventure!

Finally this is not a low carb program in any phase. You should be getting lots of good carbs from the good P1 carb sources of dairy (not cheese which is a protein source), beans/legumes and your minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies throughtout the day at each meal and often with snacks.

For what it's worth, vegetables are very important to your cells functioning well. Make sure you eat vegetables all day. I like raw red pepper with my eggs and ham (w sugar free syrup for my ham)... the red pepper is nice because it is crunchy. Green beans are nice to snack while you're watching a movie, I season wtih garlic and pepper. Metabolism occurs in the muscle, so protein in the morning and at every meal is significant and it helps if you eat the protein first during your meal, for example eat the chicken before you eat the spinach. what works extremely well for me is when I eat all of the foods that have limits before 5pm. My dinner only contains a healthy protein, i.e., steamed, broiled or baked fish and a deep green veggie. The sugar free fat free pudding helps if I am suffering and desire to cheat. I eat the nuts, low fat cheese, beans (I made a great lentil soup! and I never liked lentil soup), cocoa, sauces, etc. before 5pm. also, olive oil is fantastic when it is not heated, once you cook with it, it no longer is great for you. The oils are very good to have, flax seeds, olive oil, nuts with poly or mono unsaturated fats so that your cell walls can open and close, allowing toxins to flush from each cell. if you don't have good fats in your diet, your cell walls won't function and your cells will not function optimally. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH WATER, YOUR BODY IS LIKE A RIVER THAT DOES NOT FLOW. again, for what it's worth. I just started SB again today:) I want to lose 10 to 15lbs before christmas

You'll have to save this pudding until p2, but there are plenty of other SF sweet treats available in p1.
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.

BTW, no pudding in phase 1, but it's OK in phase 2. SF fudgsicles are OK, though.

how would we know with so little information? height, weight, amount to lose, daily menus with quantities and timing of meals and snacks throughout the day all help provide more insight into the question you posed. But again remember the goal of P1 is to reset your blood sugar levels and not weight loss. P2 is the slow weight loss phase and results happen slowly over weeks and months, not days. If the process is valid, then the results will likely follow eventually. Perhaps "what is going on" is unrealistic expectations or a misunderstanding of the purpose of P1 or what this lifestyle change program is really all about?
