Why Do I Exercise So Much

Postby OldGreyBob » Wed Mar 02, 2011 4:24 pm

An 64 yo and rapidly approaching 65. I go to the health club 5 to 6 days a week and do 6 to 7 classes. I am doing relatively hard classes, usually 3 BodyPumps, BodyStep, BodyAttack, CoreFusion, BodyCombat, and BodyFlow. I originally went to the health club to lose some weight and get a little fitter. I started doing solo exercises but within a year got very bored. Because I was bored, I started going less and less until one day while walking on the track, I started watching people, mainly women, doing BodyPump. It cost me a temporary upgrade to my membership to try BodyPump but I just had to try. After a month I was completely hooked, making the upgrade permanet. From then on, 6 years ago, I have done BodyPump 3 days a week when possible, (that usually takes a Doctor's order!) After a year of BodyPump, I added BodyStep and BodyFlow. After that a fell into a group of friends that got me into the rest. BTW, even at 64 yo I still pump more weight than most men or women in BodyPump!

So why do I exercise so much?
1 -- I love group classes
2 -- I love the companionship
3 -- I love the music
4 -- I love the exercises
5 -- I love the after glow
6 -- I love the positive effect it has on my type-2 diabetes. (this is new)

When I retired from work 2 years ago, I got a t-shiirt as a present. The t-shirt had "Gym Rat" written on it. I guess that sums it up.
I am a Phase 2, 64 YO retired, a type-2 diabetic, still a Gym Rat!
