New to SB : Type 1 Insulin Dep and Hypothyroid

Postby KellyG63 » Sat Jul 07, 2012 12:25 am

Hello folks!!

I'm new here after starting the SB diet a few days ago. I've been reading numerous posts, specifically posts about hypothyroidism and insulin dep. diabetes. Haven't seen any recent posts, so I thought I"d get the ball rolling again.

I've been type 1 insulin dependant for 22 yrs, was diagnosed at 27. Two years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I have the kind of auto immune disorders that like to hang out together, so apparently my body is just one big party with an open invitation for all the other chronic illness. Severe depression has also joined the party and possibly now, fibromyalgia. I've gained 35 pounds since then and I've felt like absolute S**TE since then.

So, I've decided to make some major adjustments to my eating and to follow SB with the hope I can shed some weight, gain some energy and balance my bi-polar blood sugars. I've read that many people with hypothyroidism have difficulty losing weight? I wonder if it's still difficult even if your levels are good?

If there are any other Type 1's out there, how did you do your sugar checks? After eating? Since many of the meals are no carb, kinda hard to gauge pre-food shots, but I do notice a slight increase 30 mins post eating, so that's when I've been dosing. Anyone in this situation?

I'm really looking forward to feeling healthy...thanks for any feedback!

This plan should help you.

One thing to note-- SB is never "no carb"-- just because p1 doesn't have grains doesn't mean it doesn't have any carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are present in all of the veggies that you should be eating (including some beans/legumes, which are pretty carb dense), as well as in dairy (the allowed kinds of milk and yogurt).
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.

SB since Nov '03
Goal: major weight loss (50+ lbs) & good health
Reached Jan '05!
