i put on a lot of weight when i met a guy...then even more after we broke up. and i carry it mostly in my lower body as well.

i'm happy it's going so well for you! and don't freak out if you go up a few pounds now and then, im in my 4th week and i'm using a tracker graph at http://www.tickerfactory.com/weight-loss/wmSzIrY/ -- i weigh myself everyday and post it, it helps to keep me on track, and even though the graph goes up and down a bit, i can definitely see a net downward trend. if you lose a lot of weight quickly and are active, the variations with fat/muscle/water will be all over the place sometimes. anyways, i recommend the graph method because it helps you to see the general direction you're heading.

best of luck! to everyone else too :)

Hi Jostein, thanks for the note and the kind words! It looks like you are doing great too! As far as the men go, I have decided going forward I will only date men I meet in the gym LOL. So how are you feeling now that you are on week 4? I love the fact I never feel hungry but sometimes the fullness can become overwhelming. I tend to weigh myself every other day. You are right with fat/muscle/water factor though. Honestly when I get up in the morning I look in the mirror. If I look slimmer I weigh myself LOL. Good idea about the graph  ..

oh week 4 is going pretty well. i started SBD right around the time the snow was melting (although it's supposed to snow again tomorrow, which I think is mother nature being a tad unreasonable, but it wouldn't be the first time, eh? ;) ) so i've been doing a lot of jogging outside. i'm just so happy to be able to be outside!! it was a loooong and cooooold winter. too many hours in the gym. the point of my story is that i'm finding that with the jogging my thighs and bum are tightening up and jiggling less--which is a big deal for me because that's where I "hide" my bulk and I have a *really* hard time losing it.

i mentioned this on my own diet journal just now, but I may as well pose the question here too: I've been thinking about buying an exercise DVD. anyone have recommendations? i tried a few different ones out on youtube today and wasn't blown away. the best of the lot was probably jillian michaels, but even then, i didn't click with it. just thought i'd ask--it'd be great to be able to do some real strength training at home on my off days from running, that would be ideal

Jillian Michael's 30 day shred will kick your butt into shape. The first time you do it you think you are going to die, lol, but if you stick with it, you will notice abs muscles start to show up everywhere. If you have Comcast Cable they offer free in their On demand fitness section.

i've been dying to start all week but i have a cold :( hearing about everyone's weight loss is making me want to jump into it. hopefully i can start monday. congrats to everyone! sounds like you're all doing well :D

as for the workout DVDS, i love anything turbo jam. it's really fun to do! also, carmen electra's fit-to-strip is amazing for toning. it sounds kind of silly but after three days, i could really feel it working!

Hi Jostein,

I am a yoga instructor doing power yoga (Vinyasa). The Vinyasa flow includes Sun Salutations that are designed to build upper body strength while lengthening and shaping long lean muscles. I would suggest trying the On Demand Yoga either the Yoga Fitness Plus or the Power Yoga. I also do Winsor Pilates for abs..works wonders! I also incorporate band training and weights which helps with strength training.

Good job with the running! I ran my first race in March and had a great time. It was only 3.5 miles but boy it kicked my butt!! Anyways hope this helps. :D

Thanks for the advice, guys!! I picked up both Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred and the biggest loser boot camp workout dvds yesterday, so I'll give them a try. I totally want to get the fit to strip one too! haha why not have a little fun with it, eh?? I watched an episode or two of that show a few years back with carmen electra and her husband, and she's surprisingly endearing. anyways, ill let you all know how they go :)

And tikikat, congrats on the race!

Hi all! when I read nowhere's post (thanks for posting :D ) I knew I wanted to reply, but found the sweet surprise of all you like-minded folks and your replies! :D ! How wonderful!
I will be entering a Master's Program next Summer, though my long-term BF is in school now, so we live in a small college town in Idaho. I thought I would be starting this summer, but when that had to be delayed, I considered it a blessing of time to focus on getting healthy before hitting the books again. I started SB in March, and for about 6 months prior to that, kept thinking that school itself would provide the structure I needed to get back into shape -- harharhar - was that self delusional thinking or what! I have a great ability to justify my procrastination when I want to.
Like many have pointed out, you look great! you definitely carry your weight well :P I would be jealous, but I know that being overweight - regardless of how many compliments others may have for you, is a personal torture for most of us.
I didn't see your age listed, but like Kathy in AL, I am in my 30's, which I would guess is a decade older than you :) Congrats on grabbing the reins and getting back in shape and back on track with your educational goals!!!

Looks like this thread died a bit, but I decided to jump on the boat as well!
I have been over 150 pounds since I was 10 years old, and finally after hitting the 172 mark 2 weeks ago, I finally decided that I was going to change everything!
From the time I was 10 to about 17 years old, I remained around 150 pounds, though the weight slowly crept onto me. My three years at University have caused me to gain the horrid "Frosh 15"....so, it is time to lose that AND even more, because my goal is to get to 130 pounds! That will make me thinner than I have been since I was 9 years old!
I wish to get to 150 pounds before school starts up again, because I want to make my last year at University memorable! I am so thrilled to find people that have such similar stories!
170/152/140

Mini-Goal to reach by April, 2010:
Stay below 145 pounds

ugh. I'm in the same boat. I've always been big, but since dating my boyfriend, I've put on over 20 pounds!!! I'm determined to lose it now though! I'm Kate btw and for the most part, I'm new to the beach! Today is day 3 for me on phase 1, although, last year I did watch my dad drop 60-80 pounds on the beach!
