I'm starting South Beach today. I've been researching and reading forums like this, and studying the book for about 2 weeks. I finally cleared out all the carbs from my dorm room last night, and I went grocery shopping.
Now, I'm ready!
(I'll edit tonight to put in what I actually eat for the day)
Day one:
Breakfast: lean chicken deli meat, string cheese
snack: string cheese
Lunch: big salad with lemon juice
snack: celery sticks
Dinner: big salad with grilled chicken slices and lemon juice
dessert: sugar free jello
Exercise: 30 minutes taebo, 10 minutes jump rope. |

Hi Mich! I'm happy you've decided to join SB. It is so wonderful being on the way to "healthy". If you ever need help we are all here to lend a hand along the sometimes very bumpy road, as we all need a little help sometimes! Good-Luck with everything!
Take Care! |

Thanks Cola! :)
I forgot to add in my first post that I am 22 years old, and I am a full time college student. I currently live in a dorm without access to a kitchen, so I have to make do with a microwave, a george forman grill, and a toaster oven.
I'll be moving to a place with a kitchen in August, so it's only for the summer.
I think I did pretty well today. I'm craving cheesey breadsticks something AWFUL. It's raining now, so I can't take a walk, and I'm trying to find ways to distract myself. |

I find when I am having trouble Im in here reading journals. The cravings soon leave most of time. Thats what I like about this. Food has controlled me way too long.

Thanks Kelsey. I went to bed early to avoid the fact that all of my friends were ordering pizza, lol.
I know I shouldn't get on the scale so soon (and I said I wouldn't!) but I'm a pound and a half down from yesterday.
That can't be right, lol.
Today, I had a mini-slip up. I ate part of a slim fast meal bar at breakfast. I'm not going to stress out about it, though.
Breakfast: 1/3 slim fast bar
snack: peanuts (10-15)
lunch: string cheese and deli meat
snack: more peanuts (I need to banish those!) and celery sticks
dinner: grilled chicken, salad
dessert:: sugar free jello
Exercise: 40 minute walk, to and from the grocery store.
I went to the store to get some eggs (we'll see if I manage to cook them without a stove!), natural peanut butter (which looks GROSS), sugar twin, which had the same ingredients of splenda, but cost 5 dollars less, and some olive oil and fake-butter. I never use oils on my salad, or butter, so I'm going to TRY to add those in my diet somehow, because I don't think I'm getting enough calories. Well, today, with the peanuts, I may have, but yesterday, and the day before (when I did about half a day of unofficial south beach-ing) I don't think I ate enough. I'm not hungry, but I'm usually not, so I'm trying to increase my eating.
Classes and work resume tomorrow, so I'm going to cook my food today. I'll need to wake up early to have breakfast, which is different :) |

Yesterday was pretty good.
I microwaved an egg (yuck!) for breakfast, and i managed to choke down about 2/3rds of it.
snack one was skipped due to work, and I forgot to grab string cheese before I left for class.
lunch: assorted veggies, and string cheese
snack 2: peanuts.
dinner: lean deli chicken breast and lettuce rolls.
The scale said 177 yesterday, so I'm moving in the right direction.
I'm going to try not to weigh myself again until Sunday.
Today: breakfast: egg (yuck!)
snack: celery and natural pb sweetened with 'sugar twin' (about 2 teaspoons). I put the pb in the fridge, and it's tasting much better with the sugar sub! :)
planned:
lunch: salad
snack: jello? string cheese?
dinner: deli chicken breast and salad
dessert: jello, probably |

| This is day two for me and I just wanted you to know that I understand the cravings. I have decided that instead of eating I am going to come to the board, read, and put on post. That will hopefully take my mind off the food I want. It is strange, I think more about food now than I did two days ago. I know it just because I can't have it. It's like a little kid, tell them no and that makes them want to do it even more. Good luck. |

I've completely neglected this journal.
I've been eating pretty much the same things everyday: grilled chicken, salad, trying to choke down an egg at breakfast, and grilled turkey burgers with sprouts and string cheese.
I'm 9 pounds down now, almost at the end of week 2, despite my massive cheating last weekend. I'm going to move on the phase two next week. :) |

Lady. can I make a suggestion for an egg in the microwave. I love to cook with my microwave and have tried just about everything in it. We went about 2 months without a stove and I have 4 kids.
1-2-3 egg.
Spray a microwave-safe bowl with cooking spray (I use olive oil)
crack one egg in the bowl, add 1 tablespoon skim milk and stir together until well mixed. Cover with a small plate of plastic wrap. Cook in the microwave for 1 minute 23 seconds approx. (123 is easy to remember). When done remove from the microwave add cheese replace cover and let cheese melt. You can add veggies to the eggs before cooking to make a fritta.
I hope you like them. I also just posted a chicken nugget recipe for the microwave that will have your friends begging to eat with you.
Good luck on the diet and if you need anymore microwave recipies just ask. I even make lasagane in the microwave. |

Thank you for that tip, Redrabbit :) I will have to try that.
I found a microwave egg thingy that'll allow me to make hard boiled eggs, so hopefully that'll work, too. It might be bad if it does, since I really love hard boiled eggs, lol.
Food for the day:
Breakfast: celery and pb
Snack: none
Lunch: grilled chicken strips and cucumbers w/lemon juice *yum*
Snack: none again (I just haven't been hungry)
Dinner: Fantastic, amazing, wonderful Chicken Parmesan :) (and a side salad)
Dessert: maybe some jello.
I tried to make the pb cookies, but they tasted awful. I'll just stick to my jello, lol.
I weighed in today at 171.5, which is 10 pounds down! *whoo* |

Hey MichiganLady!
I'm also 22 and a college student too! Hey how you do the grilled chicken with lemon sauce? I'm a chicken-aholic and having some lemon sauce with it would just make my day (I'm about to make some dinner).
Anyway, great journal! :) Feel free to read mines. |

AtkinsShucks,
If I said lemon sauce, I mistyped  I marinate my chicken in lemon juice, and it gives it a nice flavor, and I put lemon juice on my salads (I always have, even before SBD).
I had a sub today. I was at work, and I didn't remember to bring my lunch, so I caved and ordered a veggie sub from Jimmy Johns. It was fantastic, lol. I had a pickle with it, and a few chips (2 or 3).
Breakfast was hard boiled eggs (my egg cooker worked!)
Snack before dinner was string cheese
dinner was a makeshift taco salad (with lettuce instead of chips) I used ground turkey breast (since I don't eat beef) and I used salsa (w/o oil and low fat cheese). It was very good. :)
I might have jello for dessert. |
