Patt's Plan

Here I go again. I've noticed that there are many changes in the SB that I have already made over a year ago. This is both good and bad news. If the changes didn't help before will they help now.

I'm a straight arrow when it comes to following plans, it's the only way I will know if it works. After making my grocery list, I can see I will have to shop in two different weeks since many items will not keep for 2 weeks.

That being said, is there any reason I can't do days 1-7 a second time for Phase 1? I'm not worried about too much variety, I'm not a lover of cooking or food preparation. I could eat the same thing day after day, but I won't since it's not part of the plan.

I've always wondered why planned food days rarely take into consideration a person on a tight budget or a person who lives where fresh items are not always available. Good thing it's almost summer; South Dakota has a very short growing season, not because it's too cold, but because it goes from cold to very hot quickly. The super markets will carry many items, but of course, the cost is high since everything is trucked a long way.

Please, wish me luck, I really need for this eating plan to work.

Opps, forgot to introduce myself.

I'm a woman in her 5th year of menopause, over weight by 35 lbs, and have tried Power Protein, Slim Fast, Lean, and simply eating less. I've been exercising everyday since March 13th, 2004, mostly treadmill and floor stretches since I have a degenerative disc (very common). I do crunches while laying on top of a big blue ball, which for the first time in many years is now a possibility. This exercise also puts my back into a good feeling.

My biggest fear is that the SB won't work even if I follow it to the T. Why? Because the other food plans that seem to work for nearly everyone havent’ worked for me. I have had my pituitary gland tested and the only thing that comes up short is my testosterone level. I have testosterone cream coming into the picture soon. I understand there is a new report out that explains why many men can not lose weight if their testosterone level is low, perhaps this is the same for women.

I'm a video editor, which means I have spent many, many hours sitting in front of my Mac, but now I'm also working a part time job and am on my feet for 6 to 10 hours a week. Perhaps this will help, new fact in the equation.

I'm married to a great guy, who's eating habits are totally different from mine so there will be no sharing this food plan with him. He did wonderfully on the Power Protein, dropped pounds like crazy, while my scale never moved.

Hope to find the emotional support here that I disparately need, it's really what makes most food plans work.

Day number 5 was my worst. The first 4 days were really quite nice. But, on day number 5 I was tired and in the evening we just watched TV, which normally, I am doing something with my hands and often even forget to eat if my husband is at work. I ate some almonds, extra SB dessert, jello, and an ounce of legal cheese. I think I'm going to be okay tonight, will be doing some hand sewing.

Never had any ill effects from sugar withdrawal; I've changed a lot about my eating habits a long time ago.

I did spend nearly one whole day in the kitchen chopping, slicing, and bagging my fresh vegs. for later use. Had to, couldn't' get another item in the refrigerator, nor could I find what I was looking for without taking everything out each time.

I also played around with the Ricotta cheese dessert. I didn't like the texture. I tried putting it into the blender, but since it was so thick, the blades would just spin in place.

I took some lemon sugar free jello (1Tsp.) and 1/4 cup. boiling water and dissolved the jello. I poured this mixture into the blender along with the Ricotta cheese. The texture was a lot smoother. I think a person could use the jello to flavor the cheese, and during phase II I am going to try folding in beaten egg whites to add bulk and maybe a creamer texture. Do love desserts.

Since I don't weigh, I have taken one pair of slacks that were so tight I looked obscene, and every day or so I will try them on. I don't think I will lose the 8 to 12 lbs. like others, but at least I can keep track with those slacks.

Patt,

Your recipe for the ricotta dessert sounds good! I've been avoiding it because I don't like the texture either, but I'll have to try your modification.

Congrats on your first five days! :)

Great, MichiganLady.

I didn't think anyone would even see my posts.

Another thing I'm going to try, after I go shopping again, is to use crystal lite as a flavoring or even koolaid, sugar free of course.

Also, I'd like to try melting bitter chocolate (unsweetened) and mix in gelatin (unflavored) and let it dissolve in the hot chocolate then mix it with Splenda and into the Ricotta cheese and into the blender. The liquid state should allow the cheese to blend and then when it cools in the fridge, it should be firm. Notice, I’m saying “should.” I have no idea if this would be breaking the rules.

Wondering, are there different types of texture for the Ricotta cheese?

Well, I went shopping today. I’ve got some good news and possibly some bad news. The good news is the experiment I tried with the Ricotta cheese turned out really good. The bad news is, it may not be legal for the first two weeks phase. You have to be the judge.

I got some Ricotta Light which says on the container, lighter and smoother.

This is the experiment:

1 square of bakers chocolate.

1 pkt of unflavored gelatin

1/4 C. of boiling water

2/3 Tablespoons of “Can’t Believe It’s not butter”

one ounce of Land O’ Lake fat free 1/2 and 1/2

1 pk. of Swiss Miss no sugar hot chocolate mix

Lots of Splenda in the spoonable form

teaspoon of vanilla

15 oz. of the Ricotta Light

Remember, this was my first try, and next time I may do it all differently. I don’t have a food processor, so I am using the blender.

I melted one square of the bakers chocolate in the microwave and basically add all the other stuff into the chocolate, but you have to taste as you add the Splenda. This has to be on the running side to get the blender to work with the cheese, at least with mine it does.

Then this is the tricky part. I put the Ricotta into the blender, but it might be better to put the chocolate mixture in first since it will be more runny and have to climb up into the cheese. Either way, your mission, should you accept it, is to keep blending until it is smooth as silk, and it does get THAT smooth. If the bottom of your blender glass comes off, empty it into a bowl. If it doesn’t come off then, of course, use the opened end, it’s just that the bottom method works easier if it’s available. Refrigerate. It becomes quite thick and creamy.:P

Oh, forgot one thing, before you empty the blender, find a small kid to come in and lick the blender glass (have no idea what this part is really called). If no kid is available, be prepared to do the job yourself.

Next time I’m going to try some other kind of flavored liquid, but will also add the packet of unflavored gelatin so it will be firm in the end. I think crystal lite would do the tick or even sugar free koolaid.

Was way too busy today to even eat all I was suppose to eat. I did manage to blend an entire head of cauliflower for several meals. Man, I really like that dish, the one where you add the liquid butter and 1/2 and 1/2 as you push it into the blades of the blender. Hum, wonder if that rubber scraper counts in calories.

I've stayed on phase I for three now, three weeks today, in fact. I couldn't believe it when I saw four pounds lighter on the scale, and added to the 4 I lost from the first two weeks, I feel so relieved that something is actually working. I will be very happy with 2 pounds a week.

I think I will stay on phase I for at least one more week. It's really not that hard for me. I've come up with a couple of really good desserts using that Ricotta cheese but I make it VERY smooth. Can't stand that lumpy feel.
