Hi all,
I have been around the boards for a few weeks, posting a few questions, but mostly lurking...
I think these journals are an excellent way to keep track of what you eat and get some support from fellow SB'ers. :)
So today for me is Day 1. This weekend I threw out all my "junk" food and went grocery shopping with my SB friendly list in hand. I got a bunch of basics -- I figured I would eat pretty basic this week (meat, eggs, lf cheese) this week -- then become more adventurous once I get used to the diet.
I live with my fiance, who is a little chubby, but being 6'3", can eat way more and not gain weight than 5'5" me. ;) Though I do hope that my weightloss will inspire him to go on the diet too -- for his health and high cholesterol. Even if he doesn't I am fine with that -- I can handle his potato chips and snack cakes in the house. I HAVE WILLPOWER!! :) (or at least I think I do ....)
In the summer of 1995 I was dumb and did a starvation diet. I lost 40+ lbs in 3 months ... and in turn ended up giving myself gallstones and having my gallbladder removed. What fun. And I gained all the weight back eventually anyways. So I am ready to do this right and healthy!
As my screenname states I am a bride-to-be, with my wedding in June 2005. I want to be thinner and healthier by then. I am still a little shy about posting my weight...but realistically I would like to loose 55-60 pounds.
OK -- so day one so far:
B'fast: 1 lf mozz cheese stick, 1 hard boiled egg (I was planning a lf cheese omlet, but I was running low on time and had to grab something to-go and eat at work -- glad I thought ahead and made 1/2 doz. hb eggs last night). I am also indulging in a diet pepsi. I bought caff free for home, but I have drank a soda every morning for years (I don't drink coffee). From what I have read and have heard I can have one diet soda that isn't caff. free and it shouldn't hurt my diet. Yes, caff is an appetite stimulant, but I think I will be fine ... what do you all think?
Mid-morning snack: (will be) 20 peanuts
Lunch: A salad from Subway -- in it I had iceberg lettuce, some cheese, a few olives, a few cherry tomatoes, a chicken breast portion, and olive oil for dressing; bottle of water (it was hard to pass up my usual pb cookie, but I did! What a small step -- but it felt great! Is that sad?)
Mid afternoon snack: some celery and garlic hummus
Dinner: grilled boneless/skinless chicken breast, side salad, some cottage cheese and for dessert a "no sugar added" fudge pop.
Looking forward to posting daily and finding some support on this board!

Hi Heather!
I too started this diet in preparation for my wedding, which was two weeks ago saturday! Let me tell you, I am so happy that I did! I was able to lose about 25 lbs in time for the big day, and my total thus far is 34! SBD is such a great way of life, you'll never feel deprived or hungry. I do have one tip, and that is to exercise! I know that is what really jump-started my weight loss and what has helped me keep on losing!
Best of luck, and if you have any questions, I'm here for you...I know how stressful the wedding planning can be!!!!!

Hi jenn,
Congrats on your recent wedding! I bet you looked fantastic! Do you have any "before" and after" photos to inspire me? Any good tips?
I am really looking forward to being successful on this diet -- I KNOW the wedding will keep me motivated.
Exercise is def a good thing. I figure that I will not try too hard the first week (want to get used to the diet and eating schedule) but starting week 2 I am going to do my arm, leg, and tummy exercises evey night like I used to ... and every other day my fiance and I will take our dog for the "walk around the block" -- we live in semi-country and a block is about a 30 minute walk ... 60% of which is uphill.
I just wonder how I am going to stomach all of the water ... I'm not a big water drinker. Any advice? How much is enough?
:)

About the water thing...Eat a whole bunch of salt so you're always thirsty...just kidding!!!
I try to drink four 1 liter bottles a day...sometimes I have to force myself and I pee every 2 hours, but my skin is sooo clear now, it is kind of weird. I also like to put lemon juice and equal in and make my own lemonade...sometimes if I'm sick of plain water I'll do that for three of my four bottles. Water is great though...it helps with food cravings and makes you feel so full!
I don't have any pictures to put on the web unless I find a scanner, and then I wouldn't know where to put them...I don't have a website or anything...I can tell you that nobody noticed on me until I had dropped about 15 lbs...
The main reason I HAD to lose the weight is because I wanted to borrow a friends absolutely beautiful dress, but we could barely get it zipped. We had a back-up plan but I was going to wear that dress, that was all there was to it!
Oh, and you said it was hard to pass up your peanut butter cookie? You'll probably love these:
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup splenda
1 egg
Mix all together, bake 9-11 minutes at 350. These are terrific, and legal in all phases. Just remember to count them as your serving of nuts. Usually makes 12, count two as a serving...
Have a super night!!!!! |

| Hey there! It looks like we have roughly the same goals, I am only on day nine of Phase 1 and i feel better than I ever have! I agree about the water- I always keep a bottle of water at my desk- I pretty much have to force it down- but when its empty i just refill... I also have a diet coke almost every morning. (No one can take my DC away!!) :D |

Thanks for the pb cookie tip. So that would count as a "sweet treat" and the nuts for the day?
Well, so far so good. I told myself I wasn't going to weight myself until after a week to aviod going crazy -- but I had to do it this AM. And according the the scale I lost 4 lbs in 1 day? I know the scale is very accurate, but I find that hard to believe....
Last night I ate:
D: skinless/boneless turkey breast cutlet grilled with garlic (yum), some brocolli, and a scoop of lf cottage cheese. For dessert I had my first "treat" of the day -- a sf fudgesicle. I thought it was really yummy -- that nice ice cream feeling without cheating.
Today:
B: 2 egg omlet with lf american cheese
MS: a cheese stick
L: A chicken breast with some sf tomato sauce on it
S: (I will have) 20 peanuts
For dinner tonight I am going to have some ff veggie refried beans with a little lf mexican cheese melted on top and a touch of lf sour creme. I am also going to attempt to make some zucchini "fries" in the oven. If I am full they will make a good dinner side tommorow.
So far so good. I expected to be a little "off" and I am. I had a killer headache that aspirin didn't help all afternoon/night yesterday. I also have the oddest feelings about food. When I think of the food I can eat (salad, meat, veggies, cheese) I feel like I am going to be sick .... I am fine when I eat it but when I think about it I feel ill ... very strange. Normal? I have no idea. I was also just a tad bitchy last night to my fiance, but he understands that it is my body crying out for cheese-doodles and cookies. :)

Hey bride to be!!!
How is the day going for you? How much of your wedding stuff is planned out? I miss that so much, the planning...we had lots of fun with that. Enjoy, because it goes so fast! It is funny, I defined myself as "the girl that was getting married..." for so long that I'm having to redefine myself now...it is so easy to get caught up in it...
Anyhoo, now I'm focusing on training for a marathon...hopefully soon I'll be "the girl who runs marathons..." Not fast, but runs them...ha!
Have a good night... |

Hey all,
Today is good so far.
For b'fast I had a hb egg and a flaxseed muffin! I made them last night and I was surprised at how good they are (I was really prepared for the worst). I even got my non-dieting fiance to eat one!
The wedding plans are coming along. We got engaged in Dec 03 (in Hawaii!) so we had a lot of time to look at venues. We are 99% sure we are booking it at a beautiful winery here in Ithaca, NY. Fab with gourmet food, wonderful veiws, and right on the lake-front. We will be having the reception and the ceremony at the same place since it is so gorgeous. So, we have the rector booked from the church for that date, almost have the place choosen (they are holding our date), have the bridesmaid dresses picked out (seperates from Alfred Angelo in a sage green color), and have also decided on the flowers (dark purple hydrangeas).

Another dining out lunch succesful. I got the grilled chicken breast sandwich at Wendy's. Took off the bun and ate the chicken with the lettuce and tomato. Very good -- nice and juicy!
:) Day 3 successful so far!
Snack this afternoon will be 20 peanuts! |

Dinner last night: a filet mignon (yum!), some celery, and a scoop of lf cottage cheese.
Dessert: A sugar free jello and a sf fudgesicle ... still under 75 "sweet treat" calories! :)
Breakfast this AM: a flaxseed muffin and a hb egg
Snack will be: a cheese stick
This really isn't as hard as I thought it would be .... ;)

Are you getting exercise? I never exercised before, and now I have to do it every morning.
I'm another bridal success story. We got married in Vegas April 6. I lost about 25 pounds before the wedding. I'm currently down, well, about 25 pounds. |

I haven't started exercising yet. What I am doing is for this first week just getting adjusted to the diet and lifestyle. Beginning next week I am going to do cardio/weight every other night and on the "off" nights I am going to bring my dog for a walk around the block -- which where I live is a 45 minute walk 60% uphill!
Lunch -- ANOTHER eating out success. I had the bunless burger and Chili's with mixed veggies and a water. Like I said, if I couldn't do the eating out thing for lunch I wouldn't make it. Thankfully restuarants are starting to get healthier and have more options other than the old-school "diet plate" of cottage cheese and lettuce!
