I guess I should admit that I did Atkins for quite a while, and did pretty well with it. But I had to quit last winter when some medical issues popped up, and I just can't seem to get motivated to start back up in the severe Induction stage. Reading about South Beach, it seems a lot more liveable and practical. I'm starting today, and I'm nervous that I'm not going to be able to do this, either.
I'm 38 years old, work part-time, and have two wonderful children. My hubby did Atkins with me for a while last year, and says he'll try South Beach with me, but I won't hold my breath. If I can just make healthy meals that taste good, he won't have to know that we're all eating healthy.
I am 5'5" and weigh 280 pounds. For now, I just really want to get below 200, but my eventual goal is about 140 lbs. If I find that I feel good and look good (and can shop anywhere I want) at about 170, I'll be happy there. The lowest I have ever been in my adult life was around 190 about 10 years ago, and I want to get lower than that.
I'll take any support I can get! |

| Good Morning, Amylee. I believe once you give this diet a try, you'll find in a matter of days that you feel better than you have in a long time. My husband has started this diet with me and has said numerous times, "I could eat like this forever". With the allowance of beans in this diet, it adds something a little more substantial than just salads and meats. I also tried Atkins many years ago and remember never getting over the cravings for bread and pasta. I have not experienced those cravings with this diet. I am honestly learning how to eat correctly. |

| Thanks for the words of encouragement. Yeah, the fact that I can have beans surprised me, as well as being able to add in other foods as soon as I get through Phase 1. I made it through Day 1 and feel good so far, not too deprived yet. Talking to everybody here is going to be a big help, too. |

So far, so good. I think I may even be having a positive influence on my co-workers. Since they always have candies and goodies sitting around the salon, I brought in a big package of string cheese to keep in the fridge. All of a sudden, we've got fruit and other healthy alternatives showing up. Hmmm.
I made it through Phase 1, although I feel as though it was more through luck than hard work. I'm really tempted to stay in this Phase just for another week until I feel more in control of the eating. Sometimes I feel like I'm just "winging it", like I don't really know what I'm doing. |

I tried some really nasty whole-grain, low-carb hot cereal for breakfast. YUCK! I guess I stick with the whole-wheat tortillas instead? I like to scramble some eggs with green peppers and then wrap it inside a tortilla for a breakfast burrito. Yummy.
I tried some strawberries the other day, but Michigan berries are SOOO sweet . . . major trigger! My sweet tooth is still in overdrive.
Other than that, doing well. I promised myself I wouldn't get on the scale for a month, so I don't know how many pounds I've lost. But my clothes are fitting better. |
