Age: 20
Sex: Female
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 160 lbs
Goal Weight: 125-135lbs
When I was in high school I was on the water polo and swimming teams. I never watched what I ate, but I was a svelte and golden 125lbs because I was working out in the pool for up to six hours a day.
After I graduated high school, I spent my first year at university mostly eating party junk food and sitting in front of my computer studying or surfing the internet. Curiously, I didn't gain much weight that first year. Maybe five pounds. But between Summer of 2001 and the present date, I have gained thirty pounds.
I am going home to California this summer, and I both want to be able to fit into my bikini from last year, and I want to show my friends and family that I have been taking care of myself.
So after much research, and many recommendations and testimonials from family, coworkers, friends, and people like you, I have decided that the South Beach Diet is the safest, healthiest, most effective 'diet' around.
Yesterday was kind of a probation day. I ate a lot of leafy greens, drank lots of water, and had some peanut butter and two breasts of grilled chicken. I noticed that my only craving was for sodas. And I was never hungry. In fact, I had to encourage myself to eat more, because my carb-deprived body was lacking not just sugar cravings, but all food cravings. I walked to work (thirty minute jaunt) and I spent thirty-five minutes on my exercise bike. I went grocery shopping last night for some Phase 1 foods.
Today is my first real day. Right now, I am snacking on celery with a little peanut butter, and drinking water, before going out for a walk.
I find that I do better concerning discipline if I have 'teammates' with similar goals that I have; which is why I joined this forum and why I am posting my journal. It greatly helps me and I believe others, when there is a support system in place such as this. It makes our rates for success go up threefold.
Thank You for Your Support,

Amazing.
In the twenty-four hours since I began the South Beach Diet, I have lost four pounds. This is unprecedented for me. I think the most weight I have lost within a twenty-four hour period was when I had an all-day water polo tournament with four grueling games, and that was only three pounds.
So, I am convinced. I made a white bean and chicken casserole last night, but my boyfriend left it out and it went bad, so all I have had to eat today so far is a spoonful of natural peanut butter and some fat-free plain yogurt. I am hoping to remedy that soon with some celery sticks and salsa, or some tuna, or something similar.
My arms and shoulders seem more sleek, and the skin on my face feels a little tighter, but so far that is the only change in how I feel. Except that with the four pound weight loss in one day I am motivated to continue with Phase 1 and the rest of the set.
Starting Weight: 156.9
Current Weight: 152.7
Desired Weight: 125-135 |

Hi Carmelita,
I'm very similar to you. I started at 150 and lost a big amount of weight on P1 (I'm also 5'7"). I have lost about 10 pounds. It's tough-I still have sugar cravings, but I'm trying to avoid them!
Good luck! |

This is my final day of my first week in Phase 1. Just 7 or 9 days to go until I morph into Phase 2. I managed to make it through the first week only cheating once. (I ate three fudgesicles in the course of a day).
I intend to start week 2 of Phase 1 with even firmer resolve, and hopefully the excess will continue to retreat.
Thanks again for the encouragement.
