Hi- I'm hoping that someone will have an answer to my question.
I just started SBD today. I am a rather big girl, 5'8 and 260. I have about 100 lbs to lose.
In the book, it says that you don't have to worry about portions. If you are hungry, eat. I hit a couple of hungry spots today, although they weren't too bad.
For breakfast, I had 2 hard boiled eggs and a string cheese. For midmorning, a string cheese. Lunch- a salad with a hardboiled egg, cheese, cooked ham, olives, cucumbers, and of course, lettuce. I also had a small cup of yogurt (sugar free vanilla- I know there is debate over it). In the afternoon around 2:30, I had 30 pistachios (yum! plus, it's a busy snack!) I then went to the grocery store to get a bigger variety of food so that I don't eat just eggs and string cheese. When I got home, I had a sugar free creamsicle, a string cheese, and a small handful of pistachios (I get home from work at around 4- this has always been my worst time of day) I just made dinner- a chicken breast and green beans- and I plan on having a ricotta cream for dessert. I also had about 4 roasted chick peas (had to test doneness)
Does this seem like an outrageous amount of food? I know it's the first day and it's an adjustment, but it seems like so much more than in the meal plans in the book. Is it okay for me to add in an extra snack if I'm hungry late in the afternoon, especially since I have extra weight to support? I don't want to overeat, but I don't want to eat too little either.
If you made it through this marathon post and have any advice, I'd appreciate it... thanks!

Hello & welcome!
I think you need to incorporate more veggies into the day. For example, tomato juice or v8 is suggested w/ breakfast to get veggies, or you could have veggies in an omelet or w/ cottage cheese. Also, I had some veggies w/ am & pm snack (ex. string cheese & raw veggies, or yogurt, or cottage cheese, or if you perfer to have your allottment for the day of nuts for snack w/ the veggies. The vegetables will help you to feel full longer. Also beans also help, are very filling. I think the suggested amt. of veggies are 1 cup for breakfast, & 2 cups for L & D. I ate app. 1/2-3/4 cup of veggies w/ my snacks too.
Nuts are limited in amts you can have.
I would also try to drink lots of water, I drink a galloon every day, plus a cup of coffee every am, usually a glass of tea at work, & maybe a diet Pepsi in addition to the water. It may take you a few days to adjust to drinking that much, but that will help you feel fuller too.
What helped me is having a meal plan, I make up my menu for the week, shop, & prep amap over the weekend. I pack my am snack for the next day while I'm cooking dinner, so all I have to do is grab it & go. I believe if you are hungry you are supposed to eat, but maybe the veggies will help. Just try to remember to always have a protein & a good carb w/ each meal/snack.
Good luck, let us know how you are doing.
:)
P.S. Check out Kimboroni's thread for newbies, lots of good info. |

Ahh... veggies.... I actually posted about that a couple of days ago, because i was concerned. I hate vegetables. Can't stand them. My repertoire consists of lettuce, cubumbers, and canned green beans. I couldn't choke down a V8 if you paid me to.
I did have a nice large salad for lunch, I would say that was at least 2 cups, and I had a can of green beans with dinner... not quite two cups but a considerable amount nonetheless. It's hard being such a picky child.
I will do beans, though, I actually roasted some chick peas last night, and I have to figure out how to incorporate more beans into my meals. I'm weird, I love beans but hate most other veggies. Most everyone I know can't stand beans.
As for water, I feel like I'm drowning. I think I pee every 5 minutes. No problem there!
Thanks for the advice, and any other words of wisdom are much appreciated. |

My only thoughts, are that first, he nuts are limited to one serving a day. I had to get rid of mine because I couldn't just eat 15 almonds. About veggies, I hated them too, having grown up on nasty canned stuff. I've been able to relearn about vegetables by using only fresh ones. I still can't choke down a V-8 either, but I've learned to love green and red bell peppers grilled or chopped into eggs. I like them raw too. I like mushrooms in everything, especially portobellos. I've always liked onions especially grilled so that wasn't a problem for me. I hated broccoli but actually really like it now. I've even started going to the local farmers market! I bought a spagetti squash but I'm apprehensive about it. Baby steps. You can do it. I thing you'll be surprised at how this diet changes your food likes and dislikes. Good luck.
