Hi.. my name is Sebrina. I am 31 years old and have had 4 kids. I would like to loose about 20 pounds. Currently I am 5'9" tall and about 157 pounds. Most of my weight is in my belly. I started phase 1 today and would love some feedback on my meals so far.
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with a bit of milk and crumbled feta cheese
Snack: was 1 string cheese
Lunch: was a salad with 1 tomato, 1/4 cucumber, 1/4 red pepper, 1/4 onion, garlic, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp of red wine vinegar. And 1 chicken breast (skinless, boneless)
Snack: 2 pieces of sandwich meat ham, 2 slices of organic cheddar cheese (old) and two pickle slices. 1 tbsp of peanut butter
Dinner: 2 pork souvlaki kabobs and another serving the salad I had for lunch
Snack: before bed will a glass of tomato juice and another cheese string.
Is this too much?
Thanks for any advise :)

It's not too much food, as long as you're eating only until satisfied (not full). You are eating more cheese than you need to, though. On SBD, cheese is counted as a protein and is therefore technically unlimited, it is pretty calorie-dense. People report too much cheese slows weight loss and can "slow things down" in the bathroom. You aren't eating any milk or yogurt - why not try those in place of some of the cheese?
The vegetables may be a little skimpy, though you're getting some variety, which is good. Try to get some in at breakfast. Aim for a minimum of 4 1/2 cups a day. You might also want to limit tomato or vegetable juice to one small serving a day - it isn't quite as good nutritionally as a whole vegetable. Also it's pretty high in sodium and there are several other high-sodium foods on your menu. |

Thanks Magna!! This is exactly the type of feedback I am looking for. I didn't realize beans were allowed so I will definitely eat some of those too. I also didn't know milk and yogurt were allowed. I think in the first book they are not? Maybe it's new.

Early on, milk and yogurt were omitted in P1, but thankfully that has changed! I forgot to mention beans/legumes. For some reason I thought you had chickpeas. Beans, dried peas, and lentils will help fill you up and keep going. (Limit your servings to 1/3 - 1/2 cup at a time.)
I didn't ask, but I assume all your cheese is lowfat and the pork at dinner was lean. If not, that's an easy thing to fix. IMO, LF cheese tastes just as good as regular, though it may be harder to find and not available in as many varieties. And with meats like pork and beef, choose the leanest you can - but remember, you can add good fats (olive oil, etc.) to keep them juicy and flavorful. |

So I am planning my meals for tomorrow.. Here goes

S: cucumbers and hummus and tomato juice (it's low sodium)
L: Salad (romaine, red pepper, cucumber, red onion, tomato) with prosciutto, parmesan and walnuts (1 tbsp balsamic dressing)
S: Sandwich meat (ham) rolled up with cheese and pickle
D: Grilled chicken, 1/2 cup bean salad (recipe below) and salad (same as lunch minus the proscuitto and walnuts and cheese).
Bean salad
1 can of three bean mix
1/2 onion
1 orange pepper
2 cloves of garlic
basil, oregano
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp red wine vinegar

Be sure to check the P1 FAQ thread for a link to the current P1 foods list (and do the same in P2 with the P2 FAQ in the P2 forum!). Most of that has been in place since the spring of '04 with the online updates, but it wasn't in the original editions of the first book. |
