Exercising on P1

I normally feel great and have a lot of energy after exercising, but I went for a run this morning and felt sleepy and a bit lightheaded on my way to work afterward.

I'm wondering if it's advisable to keep up a fairly active lifestyle while on P1 and if I maybe need to bump up the caloric intake a bit. But then, aren't you supposed to watch your portion sizes?

Does anyone have any advice? I'm concerned about eating too many calories but also realize a certain amount of fuel is needed if you're active.

Hi SnackCakes,

I just started P2 yesterday. I exercised pretty consistently throughout P1, but have had an issue with shakiness after running. This morning I posted that problem on the fitness board and they recommended getting 20-30g of good carbs before running and having some protein afterwards. I've been running in the morning only to crawl in the bed after and start shaking. If that's your problem too hopefully that info can help both of us.

Thanks for the input, SSS. I had breakfast almost two hours after finishing my run, since I normally wait until I get to work, and that probably wasn't a good idea.

I didn't realize there was a fitness board - I'll have a look there. I also looked in the FAQ section and found a thread about being weak/having nausea, dizziness, etc, during P1, so it seems that's typical. That's helpful to know.

I made the recommendation-- you need some carbs afterward as well, not just protein.

Snack Cakes,
When I first started P1, I was a little winded. I am doing intense FIRM weight training and power walking. As the days go on, I have adjusted. You probably will too. After your workout, make sure to get your protein, greens and water to replenish your muscles.

The natural sugars in the dairy you are allowed and also the "good" carbs in beans will help with energy levels in phase 1.
If you've already got an exercise regimen you'll probably notice you aren't able to work "up to par". I was able to run 60 miles during my two weeks on P1.... but I did notice the "lack of fuel"......

On the upside, once you are in phase 2 your energy levels will return to normal. :D

60 miles?!?

I wish I loved running as much as you obviously do.

I've noticed that numerous people have mentioned beans as a solution to lack of energy. I'll try that. Thanks!
