Hi there!
I don't know if this is possible, but maybe you should look for a job that will keep you away from temptation. When you are around food and people who are constantly eating, it may be more difficult for you to stay strong. It's very easy to follow others. Are you a follower or a leader? Remember that you are doing this for YOU, not anyone else and don't give in to temptation. One bite is all it takes and if you find that you are too tempted, then maybe look for a job where you won't be surrounded by food all the time (just trying to help). :D
What are some things you enjoy? What are your hobbies? Maybe you can start looking for a job that is based on things you enjoy doing. For example, maybe you could work in a health club/fitness center, or a clothing store, you get the idea right?
You have to be responsible for YOU and take charge of what you put into your mouth (that's what I tell myself).
Sometimes it's "easier said, than done" and we all have our moments - we are all human!
I wish you the very best and YOU can do it!!
Meli
p.s.
If you can't look for another job right now, then fight your temptation - drink plenty of water and maybe exercise a bit more if you find that you have eaten a bit too much gelato!
You have to ask yourself, do you really want to make a change for the better and you will have your answer. |

At some point you have to come to grips with the concept that just because everyone else in the world eats crap foods, that it's OK for you to eat crap foods. (not that a good gelato is crap food really, it just has to be enjoyed on a limited basis as a treat, not as an everday food group!) Maybe just try to think of it as "their" food and not "your" food. We keep ice cream in our freezer for the kids, but I never eat it at home. I just don't even really see it as something that is mine at all. Nightly ice cream was likely a big reason I was obese and insulin resistant before starting SB. I simply can't afford to revisit that "scene of the crime". Probably harder for someone your age to make the distinction and separation, but just offer it as a possible strategy and "food" for thought. The temptations are always there as healthy eating is for the most part considered extreme eating and weird when it should be the norm. Until we get to that point, you just have to be your own person and have a strong belief in what you believe is the best way to eat for your body.
Or you could find a different job! Maybe in clothing retail so the incentives would be to fit in the most flattering styles! ;) |

The Italian word for "ice cream," gelato doesn't contain as much air as its American counterpart and therefore has a denser texture. An Italian ice cream parlor is called a gelateria.

Hello! I am new here, this is my first post. If you really like your job and want to stay there and yet still succeed with your SBD plan, I think the only way is to realize that for you currently, you can't have "just a taste". This doesn't mean you can't ever have gelato again, you just can't have it now.
So how to avoid that first taste? One idea is imagery. Imagine those tubs of gelato as big tubs of fat. Look at the strawberry one and don't think "Ummm, strawberry!", think "That is what the fat would look like covered in my pink shorts. Kind of lumpy, isn't it?". Another idea is to use a lot of sugar free mints, then when someone says "want a taste?" you can say "no thanks, I just put a mint in my mouth". You can also say "I don't feel like it today, maybe tomorrow". Decide each day "I'm not having any gelato today." Worry about tomorrow when tomorrow gets here.
Good luck! |

I know it's not easy, especially if your boss doesn't care if you sample the product or maybe even encourages you to sample it. But if that's the case maybe your shop sells things you can enjoy, such as specialty coffees. You may get to the point where you are getting vicarious enjoyment by watching your customers really savor the gelato as a treat.
In any case, unless your boss requires you to eat it, having something you want right in front of you is not the same as being forced to eat it, and you can say no. Think of people who work in banks and handle money all day long. Most of them would love to be able to take that money home with them or spend it, but they don't.

| I like Josie's suggestion about the mints. You might also try bringing some SB-friendly snacks of your own to work if you're not doing that already. Then when you coworkers dip into the gelato, you'll have something healthy to turn to instead. |

Part of the problem is this all or nothing thinking. You can't ruin the whole day. You can only ruin that moment. Choose to make the next moment better. And then do the same with the moment after that. And the moment after that. Before you know it, that bad moment is a thing of the past and you just have a bunch of good moments added up. |
