I've been experimenting with different foods before my work outs. I seemed to have the most energy when I ate a half peanut butter (All natural) and jelly (Sugar free) sandwich on 100% wheat and some baby carrots.
Anyone have any other recommendations on what to eat before a workout? |

| I usually go for a cheese stick, some dried apricots and some almonds. I find bread with PB and agave a bit too heavy in my stomach for yoga, but probably works better for what you do and what I have might be too "light" for you. |

I like to workout first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach.
When there are no nutrients in your bloodstream, the energy has to come from stored fat, right? :P That's my way of thinking, anyhow. I just drink a lot of water and then I try to wait an hour before I actually do eat anything...keeping that afterburn thing going.
Please don't tell me if this is not right....just let me continue with my delusion. |

K...... but unless you didn't eat a day or two before.... your stomach isn't "empty"......... |

Well, it doesn't take more than 3 hours for a meal to be out of your stomach, so why wouldn't it be empty after 8-12 hours?
I don't get it.
Have I been eating in my sleep again? No wonder I can't lose weight!

well I know that the prep for a colonoscopy starts out 3 days before hand with the removal of all raw fruits and veggies. then the DAY before you can't have anything solid and then you take the prep stuff and empty yourself out and you still the morning after that may have some in you.
so we talk about an empty stomach but it's not really as empty as you would think if it takes 3 days for raw stuff to digest enough.... |

Okay, when I say "stomach" I don't mean "colon".
Nutrients enter your bloodstream fairly quickly when you eat....the digestion process is not complete until a couple days later - I understand that.
I had to have an emergency surgery once, and I didn't have to have my stomach pumped first because it had been more than 3 hours since I had eaten dinner. |

Foods can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours to digest completely.....
(meaning..... it's still in your stomach too.)
Not sure why or why not they didn't pump your stomach (they don't always btw)..... but "them's the facts". 8) |

I've been experimenting with melaleuca's Access Performance Bars. I know they're illegal within SBD, but that's my carrot to get me to workout. They work for me. Less than 130 cal per bar but gives me so much energy to do high intensity workouts for 55-60 mins at a time without feeling tired during or after the workout. And I don't get hungry until 3-4 hours later.
I've also tried fruit-free muesli bar - almost 200 calories each [3gms sugar and 4 gms fiber]. Gave me a lot of energy but Access is way better. |

| For shorter workouts, e.g. running less than an hour, I just drink as much water as possible and go. For longer, more intense workouts and races, I like peanut butter and banana on w/w bread with a glass of milk (1%), preferably 1-2 hours before I start running/working-out. |
