Most of the posts I read around here seem to be from newbies to the plan like me. Anyone out there been on the plan for three months or more? Any long term success/failure stories?

I have been on the SBD diet for nearly 6 months. I have lost nearly 40 lbs. I wasn't a by the letter follower, in the beginning I would have a few cocktails in the evening. Mainly vodka and Grapefruit juice (very high in sugars). Other than that I followed the diet. I lost 30lbs in about 4 months that way. Since cutting out the Grapefruit a couple of months ago I have lost 10lbs more.

I am nearly at my goal weight and have started adding some carbs back in (fruits and whole grains) and continue to lose weight. I am searching for that happy medium of how many carbs to add to maintain. It is certainly a doable lifetime diet. I am so happy to have found this way of eating. It works for me!

I've been on the Beach since February 23rd. I'm now below the goal I set for myself (I'm at 135.5 lbs, and my goal was 140 lbs) and I'm on Phase 3.

You can read about my success here:

My husband and I began SBD on Feb 1 and have been very successful .
He had lost 53 pounds and I've lost 26 ! I am below my goal weight and love the energy I feel. The only thing bad is we can't afford all new clothes right now and our clothes are getting really baggy. We have changed our lifestyles so that we will never go back to eating our old unhealthy things ! We love it and have preached it to many different people and got them started!

I started right after the first of this year and have never been successful on a diet before... ever. I have lost 51 lbs on this diet and don't even think about being on a diet most of the time anymore. I feel great and am confident that I will continue to lose until I reach the right weight for me.

Good Luck!

Hello all:

I have been on SB since October of 2003. I have followed it pretty well with a few modifications to help me through my work day at a Cardiac Rehab center (see other posting concerning exercise and energy).

My wife and I also did a few vacation trips (eg: Disney for 7 days) and I knew that I would be off the diet and did not feel too guilty about it. I tried to increase the amount of exercise while at Disney (park in the far lots, skip the trams etc.) and we had "power bars" for lunch instead of high priced Mickey calories. We ate dinner early and always started with the salad bar. We had a "Papa John's" pizza one night and it was heaven! Just don't make it a habit, and realize that it is OK to enjoy yourself at least once a month (my personal philosopy) without guilt.

The final results are that I am eating better, my cholesterol numbers are down, my Irritable Bowel has behaved extremely well ( A side-effect of having my gall bladder out 4 years ago), I went from a size 40 waist to a 33, from 195 pounds to 150 with a goal weight between 140-145 for now. I found that having a sliding goal of small steps that I can meet was better psychologically for me than saying that I am going from 195 to 130. If I would have did that in October, I doubt that I would have made it.

The new bank cashier did not want to cash my check last week because I did not look like my Driver's License photo! Now, that's success!

I also feel that exercise is an extremely important component, and should not be overlooked.

Not sure if that qualifies me as a veteran, but that's my story. Good luck to you. I'm 53 years old and haven't been this thin in 20 years. Just remember, we are in this for the long haul. It took a while to get this way, and it will take a while to lose it and keep it off. Some folks actually believe that they can do this diet for 2 weeks, lose 30 pounds and then go back to beer, pretzels and pizza again. Eating the right foods is a way of life. Most Americans eat to get sick.

I've been on the Beach since 1/5/04, my husband joined me a few weeks later. We've each lost 40 lbs., each lost 10 before SBD. So, I've lost 31 on SBD, found this way of eating is just what I need with diabetes in my family, husband's, too. I just threw out his size 40 pants, he's in 36's now, and I have been throwing out my fat clothes as I shrink out of them. I've been buying 'cheap' replacements, Wal-Mart, Target, and consignment shops. Won't buy 'good' stuff until I lose another 16-17 lbs. I told DH we don't need the fat clothes, as I will NEVER let us get fat again.
Most of the old timer's drop off this forum after awhile, we get tired of answering the same questions over and over and over again. Not me, I like telling people what to do....

Wow, those are some great success stories! Thanks everyone for answering. From the people I've talked with IRL and heard from on this forum, it sounds like it takes about three months on the beach for most people to either reach their goal or get withing "spitting distance" of it. Tomorrow will be two weeks for me, so by my birthday (Sep. 7) I should be in great shape. Five pounds down, 65 to go!

I started SB on Jan 26 and have lost 30 pounds and 2 sizes. This is a great way of eating. After a while it no longer feels like a diet. Good luck to everyone just starting :D :D :D
