For those of you who have been successful on SB: can you describe what it means to "get rid" of your cravings? Is there any kind of definition for what a craving is, or does it vary from person to person? For me, I haven't had any desires to eat any illegal foods in particular since starting about a month ago. However, that's not to say that I don't miss certain things. Is that a craving? I sort of feel like I'll always miss certain things, but not necessarily crave them.... So how do you know if you're "over" your cravings?
Is there a difference between cravings and just missing something, or am I totally off base here? Thanks for your responses.

I would say that you have gotten rid of your cravings then. To me the definition, if there is one, is the sharp hunger pangs caused by high glycemic carbs shortly after eating something when you shouldn't normally be hungry. Kind of a pit of the stomach thing where you want to eat anything and everything in sight. To me they aren't food specific, it's just a craving for "food" to satisfy perceived hunger.
"Wants" that are food specific, or things you miss, to me are more just emotional leftovers we have to deal with in other ways. I still want ice cream at night when others are having it here, but I "settle" for a fudge pop and save my ice cream nights for when we go out as a special treat which is my own "rule" for myself.
Others may have other definitions. Those are just kind of how I look at it.
I will say that many things I thought I "missed", when I actually went back and tried them in the later stages of P2 or P3, they just didn't taste very good anymore or hardly seemed "worth it" anymore. If I'm going off plan, it better taste really, really good and be worth the calories and unhealthy ingredients! So you may find some of the things you miss, you will no longer miss once you try them again. Some will still be as good as you remembered them though! ;) |

the easy ability to JUST SAY NO for me is the key.
constant desire to eat and also to eat badly tells me i need to watch it for a few days....
do i WANT cheesecake YES
will I have cheesecake NO
do I want soft ice cream YES YES YES
do i have it NO NO NO
when I have it because i really really really can't say NO then I know it's time to revisit phase 1 for a day or two and get my cravings back under control. |
