You can do this! Everyone's experience differs but one things for sure you'll never regret it!
Having a friend or family memeber join you helps motivate and hold you accountable it's a great idea to have someone living with you following the same diet.

Good luck to both of you! How old is your son? If he is still in his teens, he should start in P2 and have more dairy. Also be sure to check out the P1 FAQ sticky thread and the links to other informative threads there. Particurlarly helpful are the current P1 foods lists and the meal planning template for all phases. Enjoy!

My son is 11; the doctor told me to let him do this with me. He is over 40 pounds overweight. I am not going to be as "strict" on this diet with him, because I do not want to hurt him. I think that when we start exercising regularly he will drop some of his weight.
Thanks for the advice.

Well it's just what Dr. A advises. If your own doc is comfortable with P1 for him, then that's between you and him/her. I'd still try to up the dairy with the allowed types of milk and/or yogurt and a little fruit for snacks isn't going to harm him! ;) But you're the Mom! :) Homeade chili is a great P1 food btw, and a good healthy way to get beans into kids! ;)

gklima, my son was also a bit overweight for his age at that time of his life.
I would like you to know that with a little modifications and the elimination of sodas and excessive sweets (and normal growing phases) he stretched out like silly putty. He is now 14.
Between 12 and 14 yrs. old, there is a HUGE difference just because he grew and eliminated a few things that were not so good.
GOOD LUCK! |

My oldest son was a bit chunky at 10. He is 5'5' now at 16 and is skinny; but he doesn't eat like my 11 year old. I am not being really strict with my 11 year old for the whole phase one. I am getting rid of sodas, sweets, and breads. I have gotten him sugar free jello, sugar free fudge bars and other snacks like that, because if I get rid of everything he likes to eat; he will find a way to cheat.
He is so much like his dad. He thinks about food all the time. I am hoping with little cutbacks( as I am calling them, not diets) and then exercising he will start being healthy.

Good luck for you and your son. Me and my son were on it a few months ago and well we kinda drifted off and gain some pounds back on. But we are starting today all over again. My son is 17 years old and he did great on it he lost 29lbs on it. He is a very big boy to begin with his doctor was happy with his weight loss. So I know both of you can do it.

Today is my first day on the new healthier eating plan. I am a diabetic and really need to get my sugar down. My doctor has told me I am a prime candidate for gastric bypass surgery, but I need to get my sugar down no matter what. I am hoping this works. I am addicted to sweets and bread. I know if I can make it through these first 2 weeks, I can do this. I am so glad I found this forum.
