eat SBD allowed foods, allow yourself to eat extra veggies...plan better. Say no to cravings!! Drink more water, make sure you're getting all your "requirements" in with adequate snacks. Especially since you know it's coming - be prepared!
I never found that I had "uncontrollable" cravings or hunger - I had bad choices, poor planning, mental anquish and bad attitude...so honestly, I can't sympathize with it being related to hormones...i just had food issues!!! Heck, I wish it had been limited to once a month!! |

Thanks to a hysterectomy 10 years ago, I no longer have TOM but I do have ovaries which are still kicking out estrogen and every once in a while, I will get the PMS symptoms still. Not fun. I feel your pain.
How do I control it?
Get up and do something.
Keep your hands busy
brush your teeth
Leave the kitchen-avoid food after you have your evening meal/snacks
Scream at DH when he tries to turn on food network (kind of kidding on this one)
Eat SBD friendly foods
Get rid of all of the junkfood in the house when you know it is coming.
Go work out or walk
If it is late, just GO TO BED!
Now all this sounds good but I know that it is hard to follow when Ben and Jerry has suddenly jumped in your hand and you are ready to attack. (Been there) Just do your best to talk yourself out of it and think about how good you will feel because of your good food choices. |

| The more I work out around TOM, the fewer symptoms I have. This includes cravings, bloating, and tiedness. |

Thanks!! I just find myself not caring about eating healthy around that TOM. I still eat my healthy meals 3 times a day, but tend to want to dip into something not SB friendly around snack time. I mostly don't... but sometimes I just do :( I have 2 15 month olds running around with me all day, so I don't actually find the time to eat things I haven't already prepared (that would be my sb friendly meals!) so that's good too. I always have had healthy food in the house too, as I was a SB veteran until I got pregnant. I guess the only thing I really crave is chocolate and I can always get away with Ross no sugar added dark chocolate, or sf fudgesicles!
Thanks again though! |

| I have a problem once a month with cravings and overeating, etc. It happens from the 1st to the 31st, usually.....sometimes only till the 30th - about every other month. |

Ohhh I can sympathise with this one! I have awful pms/cravings during that TOM too - I think you've been given some great advice, distraction is a big help, I've also found drinking a HUGE glass of water to help, I'll do that twice & if I still feel hungry afterwards I'll eat something (healthy!). Also as muffintop said I really did find exercising to help *a lot* w/ my moods & cravings.
I also have twins & remember how challenging it can be both physically & mentally, their almost 8 now but those first few years are 'wonderfully challening' as I used to call it lol |

| I can relate. TOM cravings have always been difficult for me. Exercise and working out has helped me a lot. It's currently my TOM and when my cravings kick in (which is right about now), I have learned to really enjoy a bowl of Kashi Go Lean cereal with some FF milk. It does the trick for me everytime and fills me up too. |

I have children running around the house all day too. I can relate. My saving grace has been a nice healthy hot chocolate. I heat 1 mug of milk in the microwave for 1 minute. I add 1 tsp splenda and 1 tsp of cocoa powder. Mix. Heat again in mcrowave for 30 seconds. And remix. Sit down for 5 minutes. I know easier said than done. By the time I finish it my cravings have gone. |

| Daniella - I found a few things that really help. Brush your teeth, floss and then use a really good minty rinse. Then go outside and get some sun on you. Go for a walk. Something about the sunshie curbs appetite. Also, if it is insatiable chocolate cravings once a month (like I used to have), I found that taking a daily calcium with MAGNESIUM really did the trick for me!!!! There are some that say that chocolate contains magnesium and we females tend to crave it hormonally sometimes. I have found that since I have taken calcium with magnesium, my intense chocolate cravings have totally gone away. And I mean I could easily eat a whole bag of reeses miniature peanut butter cups or Hershey's kisses. I can easily pass by chocolate any time now. It is very wierd but true. Good luck. |

| These are all really good suggestions. My latest thing is flavored decaf herbal teas. I sip them and they seem to quell my cravings plus they just make me feel better. Maybe it will work for you too. |

Quote: Say no to cravings!!
THIS IS HARD FOR ME TO DO the week before TOM. for me it is a physical thing...an addiction.
Quote: I never found that I had "uncontrollable" cravings or hunger
I have them every month been eating healthy for a long time. Still have that problem the week before..added to depression and temporary insanity. LOL
still working on not giving into the cravings. I agree exercise helps but then later in the day I am hungrier because I exercised. I have tried eating a little extra protien on those days.
still trying to work it out. I know my craving is salt/fat related so sometimes I will try to trick it by having something legal that is salty etc. like almonds w/salt or turkey kielbasa. I think it is the nitrates that do it for me. the rest of the month I can totally do w/out these things. Usually I eat unsalted almonds etc.
Anyway, I think you have to try everything and stick with whatever works for you.
WAS WONDERING IF YOU ALL THINK PMS meds help with the cravings at all? |

| I was just telling my Mom earlier that my menstrual cycle is much easier when I'm on SB. My flow is more regular and ends a lot sooner. My cravings are almost non-existent. I had a salty craving during my last cycle so I bought almonds. I was fine after that. |
