are you associating your headache with the diet? Do you have a history of migraine headache? What does your doctor tell you to do for your migraine?

If you are on SBD and have a headache, many people find that eating beans, i.e. black, pinto, chickpeas, and or drinking milk helps.

If you are asking from some other perspective, it's difficult/dangerous to disperse medical information online. There are too many possibilities from stress or sinus headache to a full out aneurysm....

i have had migraines since i was a kid. i dont typically take anything but ibprophen.

i was asking about food, should i take a day off...kind of hard i know. should i eat crackers...pretzels...something to coat my stomach.

i dont want to mess up all the hard work i have done, but this sucks too!

thanks DebbyC!

no, you should probably stick to the diet - if you have nausea/vomiting associated with the headache, you might need to limit your diet somehow. You should eat what you feel like eating, as much as possible within SBD guidelines - how long have you been on SBD? it is typical to get a headache if you are not getting appropriate carbs in p1. My migraines do not typically put me off my normal routine of eating - instead, reinforce eating the good stuff...i.e. not so many additives or processed foods. If the ibuprofen upsets your stomach, eat a healthy snack/meal, drink some milk. If you are not able to eat at all, try to keep that period of time as short as possible.

You're lucky to be able to treat migraines with ibuprofen, I think a lot of us usually need something more specific for the vascular component than ibu. what does your doctor recommend?

I had to do some migraine "teaching" back when I worked clinically and found that food plays a huge role in true migraines for some people. Things like chocolate, red wine, nitrates, fresh yeast products, MSG, the junk they put in processed meats and marinades - can all be triggers on an individual level. If you are having regular migraines, you would be well advised to keep a headache and food journal [if you haven't already] and talk to your doc about it.

thanks Debby, i am lucky that i can treat them with ibprophen, but i do take persciption amt. i am tired of them and think it is time to get them evaluated.

I am alot better now, i was able to control my stomach to where i didnt throw up...(normally i do)

I did not cheat today. :-) and it feels so good. i am in the 2nd week of phase 1. My migraines are food and horomone related. my head was hurting so bad a lunch and then i couldnt stomach my salad. i forgot my nuts...but it is good. i made chicken salad for lunch tomorrow. yum. (low fat mayo of course )

even though this is our first time talking your a big encouragement through out the other postings! thanks!

glad to help! I know what it's like dealing with them and once I found some of my triggers [processed meats, marinades and nitrates] I did much better. There is so much good informationon the board - so just soak it up and keep going!

Melinda, I get migraines also, usually hormonal or weather related, but I have other triggers too, including msg and too much wine/alcohol. Thankfully on SB I don't have much, if any, of the last two!

I use a store brand 'Excedrin migraine' that has caffeine. But caffeine can also trigger a headache, so you have to use what works for you. I also have a prescription Maxalt MLT, but I rarely have to use it

One thing i have found to work wonders is an ice pack on the back of my neck and forehead alternating. I use either the herb filled bean bag types that you can microwave to heat or freeze. I also use an old fashioned ice bag, wrapped in a bandanna.

Also yoga type, relaxation breathing, or diaphragmatic breathing helps a lot. I just did a google search for diaphragmatic breathing and you can find some good sites with instructions.

Don't give up on the SB eating. Drink your water, try some triscuits, a piece of string cheese. (unless cheese is a trigger)

Hope you find some relief, Barbara
