I am having some really bad bad anger/frustration/grouchy issues!!!

I feel so deprived and I think that is adding to the feelings along with the fact I lost 9 lbs in week 1 but then I began gaining until it was all back in week 2 then one day I step on the scale and its back to the 9 lbs down I feel like I am on a roller coaster here because now I am on the upward gain again!!!!!

IS THIS NORMAL? I am due to come off Phase 1 tomorrow (will be a full 14 days) but to be honest with you if this is the norm I cant live like this
I have no patience and I am loosing friends left and right!!!

b4 u ask I have been doing the beans daily and I have been doing the milk which helps with the headaches I was experiencing and I have read read and reread so many posts

I am including the info I have see you ask for in previous posts in order to see honest help...
I am 47y/o
5ft7
292lb
female

Morning I have protein (ham, turkey, eggs, leftover meat from the night before) and veggies or tomato juice hard to get fat there always because sometimes I just do some ham slices and tomato juice

Lunch is always a HUGE salad with protein (chicken turkey, ham) and BEANS and lf nemans vingarette

Dinner is always a protein on the grill (steak, LEAN hamburger, chicken) with veggies either steamed or cooked with olive oil drizzed over them

Snacks are normally the milk and cheese sticks sometimes I have had the turkey pepperoni or sf fudgescicles and I have sf popscicles because it so hot here but the popscicles and fudgescicles never total more than 75 calories daily

I drink water have a hug thermo mug on my desk at work that is constantly full and I drink only one diet drink a day the rest of my fluid intake is 1 cup of coffee BLACK in the morning and then the mug filled with ice and water daily sometimes twice daily

On the way home every afternoon I have a diet coke and 1 oz almonds/walnuts/cashews/or pecans all raw and no salt

I have not once cheated or gone off plan in any shape form or fashion but this past two weeks has seemed like 2 years!!!!!

I have not had many cravings except once for popcorn for one night and once I felt so deprived and I wanted something sweet SO BAD

I am so sorry to be coming here with the complaints but I am desperate and have lived with it for a few days before I broke down and came in!!!

Any and all helpful comments will be thankful for

Maybe moving to P2 will help you feel less "deprived" and don't weigh so often. It's going to take time and there will always be ups and downs on the scale. Try to focus on the good healthy foods you can eat instead of what you can't eat? Why do you feel deprived and frustrated? Try to find those answers and you can probably change your attitude to one that is more conducive to a long term lifestyle change.

Sounds like you are doing an excellent job!

The first time I started South Beach I was a week into it and started feeling the way you are right now. I caved b/c I didn't really want to better myself, I was doing it in competition with a friend (she asked me to cause it would motivate her)

I restarted yesterday and am doing a lot better than I did last time around b/c I am doing it for myself this time not anyone else.

Breakfast: maybe try your fav kind of meat w/ reduced fat cheese stick, & some raw veggies dipped in reg. ranch dressing. for a drink maybe some skim milk. This will bump up your protein but in a healthy way.

Morning Snack: Try 1/2 cup plain yogurt with 1/8 tsp of your fav extract (I use almond and lemon) sweetened if needed w/ 1 or 2 packets splenda (or your choice sweetener)

Lunch: grilled chicken breast, salad loaded with your fav. veggies use regular salad dressing I like balsamic vinagrette, ranch, creamy italian, or thousand island. Add a touch of shredded cheese if you like. Also add a cup of sugar free jello.

Afternoon Snack: Cheese stick & raw veggie spears

Dinner: Thick cut pork loin broiled, steamed broccoli & cauliflower, & asparagus (if you need more veggies pile them on just make sure they are legal!)

Dessert: 1 no sugar added fudgesicle placed in bowl in microwave for about 10 seconds (until slightly softened) remove from stick, add 2 tbls natural peanut butter (I use smuckers brand cause it's cheapest but very good) mix well. Place in freezer until firm. ENJOY!

I use a good bit of cheese thru out the day but only in moderation. 1 oz here and there. I personally like eggs in the morning if you do too then you could try making an omelette.

A good thing to remember is that Phase 1 isn't the weightloss phase there's a post here that explains it. Phase 1 is for helping those of us (like me) that crave carbs or sweets, it helps sort of Detox our bodies.

Hope this info helps and I'll see if I can find the link to the post I was talking about.

I think that maybe when you start on Phase 2 you'll feel a bit better.

Have you read Dr. Agatston's main south beach diet book? It explains a lot about how our bodies react and why it reacts the way it does. It may help you.

Thank both of you for the responses

I read that link this morning punkswife and am reading the Supercharged book right now the one that just came out I havent read the original one

As far as deprived I am not real sure why I feel that way but I feel like I am not "allowed" alot of things... My attitude was good until Sunday and thats when it went to pot... I had a spell of the SBD flu but got through it and now its just plain ole hateful! I am even having road rage and I NEVER did that before ....... if it isnt the diet I gotta seek help before I kill someone!~!

It is very, very difficult, if not impossible, to lose 9 Real pounds in one week- that is water weight, and it comes and goes easily.

A real pound off your body if a 3500 calorie deficit, so to actually lose 9 pounds in a week would be going without a whole lot of calories, and/or exercising a ridiculous amount.

Weigh once a week, weigh at the same time each day, (a.m.) and remember that you do not gain nine pounds in a week and you cannot Really lose nine pounds in a week.

Be in it for six months not six days!

First, it's a good idea to confirm there isn't some kind of underlying medical issue that your previous eating habits were covering up. (I assume you've checked with a doctor about your SBD plans? If not, that would be a very good idea.)

Assuming it's not something medical, it seems to me it's very likely related to your previous relationship with food. For a lot of people (myself included), eating has been a way of dealing with stress and the frustrations of life. If that's taken away, you're forced to deal with all that stress and frustration, which can be very difficult. It might help (certainly couldn't hurt) to sit down with someone you trust - a steady and reliable friend, family member, member of the clergy, etc. - and talk about the things that frustrate you.

And also, although most people here recommend not telling anyone they're on a diet, this might be a good time to let your friends know there's a physical reason you're so cranky right now. Even if you don't specifically tell them you're on an eating plan, you could let them know you're changing your personal habits for the better and it is causing extra stress. I expect most people will bear with you through the adjustment.

Hey scrapheap. (Firstly, that doesn't seem like a very positive username to give yourself, try to be more positive once you are feeling better)

I am new to this site so you probably don't think I know much about it. However, as well as being a seasoned dieter, I did the SBD a few years back, therefore I expect to experience some of the symptoms you have mentioned this time. I didn't think the plan was that healthy back then, but now it has been updated, I feel more comfortable with it.

I had headaches and was angry and frustrated like you. I don't know what caused it, as I ended the plan after a few days. I really do think that you should keep a record of what you are eating and ask your doctor for advice like some of the other members have advised.

Forums are great for support and helpful tips but if it's getting as bad as you say, it's not worth putting your overall health and/or happiness at risk.

I hope you get sorted soon. X
