I'm really not one to moan or complain but my goodness am I struggling. I know part of it is I can't do a strict p1 b/c I'm currently nursing my almost 4 month old daughter - so I started out doing a varied p1 but more like a strict P2 but my cravings for bad carbs & sugars (darn you chocolate!) is just crazy, like out of control crazy & I'm having such a time of it when I try and eat what I'm supposed to and avoid what I need to. I don't know what my deal is, I know I'm hungrier than usual b/c of nursing (AND taking care of 5 kids, and homeschooling and blah blah blah LOL) but otherwise I can't figure out why I'm feeling so weak & I just don't know how to pull myself out of it. :?

Has anyone skipped P1 (for whatever reason) and been able to get rid of the cravings? For those of you who've really struggled (even if you did P1) what was it that finally pulled you out of your rut/bad cycle?

if you are craving SPECIFIC food. (chocolate) then that craving is mental not physical and the only thing that will fix that is sheer willpower.

truth is that any craving that is for a specific food is in your head and can be dealt with through willpower.

this plan is not magic... there is some work involved.

my suggestion is when you get a craving for something like chocolate that you eat phase 1 food like an egg or some string cheese....

Sometimes eating a dill pickle when you want something sweet works, too.

It sounds like you're under some pretty substantial daily stress. Maybe if you also worked on finding some destressing techniques that would help... I want chocolate when I'm spread too thin, too. Are you exercising?? Can you take the kids for a walk during the day? Or swimming? Anything outside and physical... heck, start a family garden and use it to teach germination, plant growth, economics, etc.

Hang in there, many people have started in P2 and been able to kick the sugar habit. I would suggest that you stick with berries for your fruit and starchy vegetables for your starch (avoid grains) for the first week or two. Once you're comfortable and in control, try the other choices.

I realise it's work, this isn't the 1st time I've done it but I seem to be struggling more this time than the last & I guess I'm trying to figure out why, I know phase 1 made a big difference for me as far as cravings go -some of it mental I've no doubt but I don't think all of it is.

Were all over the place, we started our garden last week & the kids are in all sorts of activities, I also exercise so I'm quite active. Avoiding grains is a good idea I think I'm going to try that, thanks Bit :)

Time is short, will bbl :)

I'm in a similar boat, though I did do phase 1 for 10 days (until my daughter got a cold and was nursing more frequently). She is 14 months so the nursing wasn't really a concern for me on phase 1. But I have dont the SBD before and lost 75lbs, and I'm finding it harder this time around too. I'm really not sure what it is, other than I know what phase 3 is like.

I wouldn't avoid grains if you're nursing. It's probably something that should be in there. But just stick to one serving of grain if that's something that you are unsure of. And be sure to keep taking the pre-natal vitamins to make up for the lack of anything.

Wow 75lbs that is so neat!! I have roughly 85lbs to lose to hit my goal weight, I love hearing of ppl who lost a lot of weight on the sbd :)

I'm an avid supplement & vitamin taker, I don't function well without them lol And esp. now that I'm trying to cut out a lot of what I'm eating while also trying to keep a balance on things b/c of nursing. When I did the sbd for the 1st time I was nursing my 1yr old, it was much easier.

I've been trying to eat *less* grains today but not cut them out completley, so far it seems to be working okay.

Thanks for the support Daniella, I hope that things get easier for you too :)

The main thing I would suggest is to get that stuff out of the house. That way you will not be tempted. Throw the chocolate away now.

Well, you may still be tempted, but it will be harder to give in! ;)

Hi Woodland -

I used to think cravings were all in my head as well until I started on an intense vitamin/mineral/omega-3 plan made for women especially troubled with hormonal or menopausal problems. Oh my gosh! I used to crave chocolate every month and even now that I am perimenopausal I used to have that horrible chocolate craving and I swear I had to have it!!!!!! One of the things in the vitamin packet is calcium with a good balance of magnesium. Chocolate has magnesium in it and perhaps at a certain time of the month you need extra magnesium because of your hormones. Now I am no expert, but this is the first time in my life that I never crave chocolate and could pass it by any time. I have been taking these supplements now for 6 months and noticed a different almost immediately. It is a natural approach to hormonal fluctuations. And it is an incredible website. I highly recommend it. here it is: http://www.womentowomen.com/ Good luck!

I've heard of that website & had completley forgotten about it until now, thanks so much for suggesting it. I'm so glad you've had such good sucess, I'm big into supplements I've had good results in using them for anxiety - don't know why I didn't think about it in this case.

Am off to check it out now :)

Hey there! I am bf'ing as well and just coming back to SB. It's interesting b/c this time for me I am not finding the cravings hard. However, I am eating a little more peanut butter than I should.

One thing that I find helps cut out the craving is to eat more beans. Chili is really really good to help satisfy your body's need for carbs.

Hope that helps!
