Hi everyone...first I just want to say this site has been extremely helpful. Just being able to log-on and read everyone elses comments really keeps me going.

Anyway...this is my 2nd time on SB . 4 years ago I lost ALOT of weight and over the last 3 years I have gained about 50 of it back. So I need to lose 65 pounds this time.

My partner and I decided to do this together, however her diet is alled the "dr's quick weight loss" and let me tell you ...it is QUICK! Our starting weights are exactly the same and in one week....she has lost 10 pounds, while I have lost 4:( At first I was frustrated by this...but now, I am okay(I think) .

Monday evening I realized just how much her diet is depriving her . On SB in the first 2 weeks we are restricted...but she is even more restricted. And because of this she cant even go for the evening walk with me due to lack of energy. I am aiming for weightloss , but also building muscle and getting in athletic shape like I used to be. I have my low energy days...but I am still able to get to the gym.

So...I was a bit baffled about how she is losing weight so quickly while sitting on the couch and I am bustin my butt in the gym....so now I am just hoping for long term results which will outweigh(so to speak) the benefits of my partner dropping weight so quickly.

Has anyone else encountered a situatiion like this? And has anyone been on the other diet I mentioned?

my start weight was 214.4 and today...9 days in it is 209.7.

Thanks guys.

Red's Rule #1463: Weight loss is neither linear, predictable nor comparable.

You are two different people. You will not lose at the same rate. Even if your partner was doing SB, they might have lost 10 and you might have lost 4. I think the important thing to re-read in your post is that you are doing it in a much more healthy and SUSTAINABLE way. There are two things to consider in weight loss. One is losing it in the first place. Not easy, but generally doable. The second is maintaining that loss for the rest of your life to get out of the yo-yo effect of constant large scale ups and downs. SB as a lifestyle program accomplishes this better than many "diets" as it teaches you how to eat properly to support your life and all it's wonderful activities and adventures! Look at the differences you cite already. Even in P1 you are active and working out and your partner is still sedentary and unable to even join you for your evening walk.

This is marathon, not a sprint. Turtle and the hare. Your program will "win out" in the end. It just takes time. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. Keep doing what you're doing. You are on the right track and sounds like you are doing great!! Keep going!!! :)

A lot of those quick weight loss plans result in lost muscle, so that's part of the problem. What we really want to lose is fat, right? There will always be some fast water weight loss as well on SB, but hopefully no muscle if you do it correctly.

I couldn't agree more with the prior posts for your message.

You MUST find something you can live with forever.Quick fixes are just that - don't be seduced. I've done it all.. deprived myself.. it just doesn't work because at some point, you have to face reality.

Keep with the program - I think you'll find what you're looking for.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

thank you all for the kind words and advice. Someone in one of the replies mentioned in a post that when you lose weight the way my partner is or on these quick weightloss ways, that you also can lose muscle. I didnt know that. That absolutely does not sound healthy.

I plan on stickin to this and am lookin forward to workin out tomorrow.

thanks guys

Yes you are using the better method of losing weight, so stick with it.

I can appreciate how frustrated you must be to see your partner losing so much more.........but how long can they stick to that method of weight loss with such energy levels etc...In my experience this only results in bingeing and more weight gain.

Losing weight is a slow process, ibut you can take comfort in being healthier and feeling better through a good diet and exercise.

As for muscle loss during a weight loss program, this is a normal process but we want to avoid it as much as possible by eating the right way and exercising .....eating too little and not taking exercise will result in too much muscle loss as opposed to fat loss

When we eat too little the body goes into starvation mode and holds onto fat reserves for as long as possible, instead muscle is used for energy.

Weight loss and weight training:

We chose to list this separately from the "exercise" category because of the significant weight loss benefits attached to weight training in and of itself. The basic equation is this: the more muscle tissue you have, the more calories you will burn. This is why world class weight lifters must eat thousands of calories a day to maintain their weight. Muscle is active tissue, fat is not. Thus, muscle "burns" a significant number of calories each day for its own maintenance. In her book Strong Women Stay Slim, Miriam Nelson, a Tufts University researcher, showed that a group of women who followed a weight loss diet and did weight training exercises lost 44% more fat than those who only followed the diet. While aerobic activity can help burn calories, muscle's where it's at when it comes to giving your metabolism a significant daily boost even at rest.

GOOD LUCK

I bet if you compared the calories that she is consuming to what you are consuming there would be a huge difference....thereby resulting in faster weight loss...
