For those who are still losing or maintaing but have been there for a few months at least, on average, how many calories do you take in on a daily basis?
I am on P1 and I have lost 3.5 lbs the first week. I am consuming about 2500 calories a day I am doing well on induction with the exception that tonight I caved in and had a SBD 100 calorie peanut butter bar. I feel really BAD about that one but I have a feeling I'm doing this wrong even though I've read the book cover to cover.
I'm just interested to see if any of you are losing and are taking in quite a few calories.
BTW...I am a 6'2" FEMALE and I run a few days a week anywhere between 1-4 miles. |

| I have lost pretty steadily all along. I know you arent supposed to count calories on this diet, but I do. I go to sparkpeople.com. It tells you how many calories you should b eating a day and there is a place where you can log your food and it adds it up for you. I usually do about 1200 calories a day. 2500 seems like a lot to me, unless you are excercising a lot. You need to consume 3500 less calories than you burn to lose a pound in a week. |

Yeah, I know all about the ins and outs of a 3500 cal deficit to lose weight. That's why I'm confused. If I wanted to count calories I'd do it that way but I was under the impression that you could eat all the lean proteins and cheeses you wanted and not have to count calories and still lose. I lost 30 lbs last year but got so SICK of counting calories that I thougth SBD might be a better way for me to go. Seems like I had many more choices and variety when I was calorie counting vs limiting myself to what SBD allows. I would STARVE on 1200 calories. Even when I was calorie counting, I was doing 1800 a day and losing 2 lbs a week. |

| this is NOT an unlimited plan. that's a very very very common misconception. you start with 3 oz of protein per meal (2 oz at breakfast) IF after all your veggies, fats grains/starchs, fruits etc you are STILL HUNGRY then have some more veggies and some more protein... |

| You can consume an enormous amount of calories and still lose or maintain as long as you burn that amount of calories. |

Yeah, and I'm not sure I am. I only run 2-3 miles a day which is only about 200-300 calorie reduction. The problem I'm having is when I don't eat enough (like the amount I had yesterday) I have no energy at all to run. I have a 5 mile race on Saturday morning that I'm training for.
I guess I will tweak some of my higher cal foods/fat content and see if that makes a diff. I know I'm still on P1 and I'm THRILLED with a 3.5 lb loss so far so that also makes a diff. |

| You shouldn't need a ton of calories to fuel a 5mi run. Maybe you aren't getting the right food or timing your food/exercise properly. |

I had a really BAD day yesterday and here's what I ate:
B: egg white omelette w/ lf cheese, tomato, spinach, bacon & taylor ham
coffee w/ soy milk and splenda
water 16 oz
lunch: eggsalad w/ a regular side salad. The regular salad had cucmbers, 2 LF cheese, kidney beans, sunflower seeds, and ceasar dressing
big bowl of brocolli & cheese soup
water 12 oz
snack: 3 pieces of SF candy (100 cals), 3 slices lean ham and a LF cheese stick
cup of decaf tea w/ splenda
D: seaweed wraps with chicken salad
big regular salad w/ ranch dressing
almond breeze unsweetened choc milk - 8 oz
unsweetened LF plain yogurt
Snack: I caved and ate a 100 calorie SBD peanut butter bar. I'm so MAD at myself!!!! I also then had 3 more pieces of SF candy and another LF cheese stick. |

I "might" get in 2500 calories on some days..... (I too watch my calories and where they come from)....
I run over 30 miles a week, strength train 3x/weekly and just recently started adding in around 30 - 40 cycling miles per week (this is only 2 rides).
I more or less "maintain".
A great way to cut some of the excess calories and not go hungry is to eat more veggies!
FWIW..... eating a banana with a TBS of natural pb about a half hour before you run will help with your energy level...... |

| Thanks. I'm lactose intolerant so milk is out of the question. Even with meds it makes me violently ill. So I drink Almond Breeze "milk". I love beans and have roasted chickpeas on most days but for me beans are a trigger food. I can't stop at a 1/2 cup. I will eat them until I burst. |

I appreciate the feedback everyone! Time to regroup and get this right while I'm still in P1.
so I just went to get breakfast and I got an egg white omelet w/ lf cheese (1 slice), tomato, spinach and mushrooms.
1 large (16oz) cup of decaf tea and splenda. |

| a person's daily calorie rquirement has everything to do with how much they weigh to begin with, in addition to how active they are. so there will be huge variation from person to person. i am only 5'2" and when i'm at a happy weight, i maintain with lots of exercise and about 1800 calories. to lose, i must drop down to about 1200-1300, which sucks, but it's just because i'm short and little. at 2500 i would be gaining steadily. so i guess it just depends on each individual's size and activity level. if you are losing with 2500 cals a day, i say, you go girl! i'm jealous! |
