A true nutritional serving of grains is 1 oz. or about 30 gms regardless of the format, e.g. cereal, bread, pasta, kernals, etc. Most recommended serving sizes for grain based products are much more than an ounce so just watch that usual discrepancey. But I think even the SB recommended cereal servings are often larger than an ounce so who knows, ya know?? ;)
I'm guessing you might have chosen a puffed or shredded cereal. :?: Those will often have decent ingredients but because of the way they are produced will be lower in overall fiber because they are "light" instead of "dense". Denser is usually better! ;)
If you look in the P2 FAQ sticky thread near the top of this forum, there is a Q&A with a link to a thread with the old cereal recommendations (pre-SBD branded cereals) when the guidelines were GE 8 gms of fiber and LE 8 gms of sugar. The fiber guidelines have been relaxed a bit, but it's still a good list to start with if you are unsure of which specific brands work the best. |

FWIW, A mix of some uncle sam's and kashi go lean (NOT the crunch version, the plain version) was my standby when I started out.
uncle sam's is in a small red box, often on the top shelf or wherever they usually put the mueslis'. The Go Lean is either with the other Kashi cereals or sometimes one or both might be in a "healthy foods" aisle if your market has one of those. Or ask a store mgr.! :) |

| I love the Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain cereal. It's sort of grape-nutsy. Very dense, slightly sweet, filling and delicioius. |

It has more sugar that we're allowed:
Total Carbohydrate 41g 14%
Dietary Fiber 8g 32%
Soluble Fiber 1g
Insoluble Fiber 7g
Sugars 13g
the guideline is more than 5 grams of fiber and less than 8 grams of fiber. |

According to their website the numbers are:
Quote: Nutrition Facts:
Serving Size: 1 cup (53g/1.9oz)
Servings Per Container: About 7
Amount/Serving %Daily Value
Calories 170
Calories from Fat 20
Total Fat 2g 3%
Saturated Fat 0g 0%
Trans Fat 0g 0%
Cholesterol 0mg 0%
Sodium 130mg 7%
Total Carbohydrate 43g 14%
Fiber 12g 47%
Soluble Fiber 1g
Insoluble Fiber 11g
Sugars 9g
Protein 5g
but that's for a full cup. I think the SB serving size is 3/4 of a cup which would bring the sugars under the 8 gms number at 6.75 gms and still keep the fiber well above the current recommendation of of 5 gms at 9 gms. We ate this all the time early in P2 alternating it with Go Lean, but at the reduced volume levels or mixing in with Uncle Sam's to average it out to be within guidelines.
It's also listed on the original cereal guidelines recommended cereals list:
Quote: Cold Cereals (with suggested serving sizes): Uncle Sam Cereal (1 cup)
Kellogg's All Bran Original (1/2 cup)
Post Shredded Wheat & Bran (1 1/4 cup)
Kellogg's All Bran Extra Fiber (1/2 cup)
Post Bran Buds (1/3 cup)
Post 100% Bran Cereal (1/3 cup)
General Mills Fiber One (1/2 cup)
Kashi Good Friends (3/4 cup)
Kashi GoLean (3/4 cup)

| Is that correct? Post Shredded Wheat and Bran is 1 1/4 cup? It's so much higher than the rest. Is that just because it's not "dense" and there's lots of space in the biscuits? |

| never noticed that before but that would be my guess as well. never have eaten it or tried it. Looks like it is 57 gms per 1.25 cup serving size though. |
