| I usually like water, but since on SB I like a little more flavor, so when I make tea (Arizona instant 2 quart mix), does this count towards my water intake??? |

| It depends who responds to this question and their particular beliefs on this subject. No right answer IMO. It would for me, but it wouldn't for others who feel the only thing that counts for water is water! ;) |

| you can find studies and data on both sides of the "debate". like protein shakes, artificial vs natural sweeteners, smoothies, sushi, and several other ongoing topics over the years, there is no concensus. at some point, just doing what you believe is best for you and works for you is the only "right" answer. |

Here's MY personal opinion.
I wasn't good about drinking water pre-SB. I'd try, and if I'd put it on my desk, I'd drink it. But I'd often just forget, and grab diet sodas instead. Now, I think that plain water is the best thing for your body. But I don't think that means it's all you can drink. I make myself drink 80 oz of water a day. But if I mix some of it up with sf drink powders (I like crystal light myself) I'm not going to beat myself up for it. Drinking water mixed with flavoring is oing to be much better for you than drinking nothing at all!
Just make sure you count any calories in it (most of those drink mixes DO have calories) as sweet treats. |

i tried drinking just water... it was work.
i don't want to work at this.
now i drink hot herb tea i use one tea bag for 20 oz.....
or i drink half water half crystal light.....
if it's got no calories or caffeine I personally count it as fluid/water. |

| I haven't tried this yet and it is for sure a p2 drink - 2 qts water, 1 vanilla bean split in half, 1 orange sliced thin - peel and all - refrigerate overnight, serve over ice and mint. I went out and bought peppermint, spearmint, and apple mint [couldn't find chocolate mint yet] - I figure I'll just give up one small bed to mint! |

That sounds really good!
But just a suggestion, if you haven't grown mint before. You might not want to plant that in a regular bed - that stuff spreads like crazy! (Well, in our area at least.) It gets in the grass, other beds, everywhere. I almost tore out my yard trying to kill it off. Now I keep my mint to large planters! |

its in a kind of raised bed...I may well have to dig it up fall or spring, but I'm planning re-doing that bed next year anyway. One at a time for me! I am planning to have SO pick up some of those big pvs plumbing/water lines, cut them into about 2 foot lengths, bury half in the ground and re-plant the mint in them so they can spread within their own little 'pot' but keep them in the ground because the drought here is much harder on potted plants than in ground plants.
I have gorgeous dill, chives, basil, thyme, oregano, and a lemony oregano going right now - and of course some very ancient rosemary that has to be controlled or it tries to come in the house! I finally have roses and herbs and for some reason that makes me feel very settled and "home" [after moving 10 times in the past 14 years] |

| Ooo - that all sounds so nice! I need to get more herbs planted. It is so expensive and wasteful to buy them fresh - I'd love to just walk out the door and cut them! |

Assuming whatever you're adding to your water is healthy, I think the only real difference between water and water with something added to it is aesthetics and philosophy.
Think about it this way: You could use the drink mix or tea separately in some other food and drink plain water and everyone would agree you were drinking water. (For example, cup of plain yogurt with SF drink mix, plus a glass of plain water). The question is, if instead of taking them in separately you mix them together, does it change anything about your diet? (For example, cup of plain yogurt, plus a glass of water with SF drink mix added.) For some people who think how you combine foods is important, it might make a difference. Personally, I don't think it does. |

since we can use lemon as a condiment even in phase 1 i cna't see why you can't use this in phase 1 but that's just my opinion. |

you don't even squeeze the orange BUT, I didn't want to imply it was "on the plan" but one orange in 2 quarts of water would be much like using lemon juice wouldn't it....it just sounds so good and refreshing.
hmmmm I know you can re-use vanilla beans by putting into sugar for vanilla sugar, so I may see how many batches I can get from a single bean. |

My aunt was having some strange health problems that took some work to diagnose. In the end, the diagnosis was hyperhydration. She was drinking decaf coffee all day long - I think about ten pots a day, on average.
I had always believed water was water and water with something in it was not water....and I had always been told that coffee, tea, sodas, and other things like that actually dehydrate you. Apparently, that's not true because my aunt never drank anything else.
I choose to drink plain water because I don't want all those other chemicals constantly going into my body in such significant quantities. Some artificial sweeteners have been linked to alzheimers, various cancers and nervous disorders, and so have dyes and preservatives.....I just want to keep them to a minimum. Plus, I've noticed that I have more of an appetite for sweet tasting things when I use artificial sweeteners frequently.
Quote: You could use the drink mix or tea separately in some other food and drink plain water and everyone would agree you were drinking water.
This is correct, actually.....but you have to consider everything that's going into your body and how it's going to be used. It may not have a negative impact on your diet, but it does matter in the long run. Your body cannot separate the chemicals, so it uses the water as is. If the water is in Dr. Pepper, your body is going to send the water, corn syrup, dyes, (and whatever else is present) up to your brain, into your muscles, skin...all of your tissues. As you dehydrate / rehydrate, the water flushes through and carries out impurities - if it is already saturated with impurities, it can't carry much more on the way out....at the same time, it can deposit impurities because it was carrying so much junk when it came in.
I used to date an engineer who invented some kind of water purification machine (he was a complete dork) and he was obsessed with clean water. He used to tell me, "You're only as clean as the water you're bathing in." The same thing is true for the inside of your body. That's the way I look at it - I'm only as clean as the water I'm drinking and the foods I'm eating.
Now I'm thirsty! :P |

 Woah. If that's a normal 10-cup coffee pot (which is 10, 6-oz "cups") that's 600 ounces a day, which is over 17 liters of liquid a day. I have a hard time drinking 3!
I can see where that would cause some health problems! I hope she's doing ok now (and is cutting down the liquid intake.) |
