In the book, it says to stay away from fruits in the morning initially on Phase 2, due to the sugar in the fruit causing a spike in insulin levels. However, in the meal plan at the back, for day 1 on Phase 2, the suggested breakfast is oatmeal and strawberries. Can anyone explain this? Should I eat the fruit or not?
Thanks for any suggestions!! |

the menus are ideas of what a full long term phase 2 person might be eating.
I have oatmeal and a banana every morning for my midmorning snack (it's actually my second breakfast) but i've been doing this for over 2 years now.
in the early days of phase 2 i had my fruit in the afternoons with protein or fat or after dinner with protein or fat (ricotta and strawberries is a fav of mine) |

| Also, berries are lower on the glycemic index so it would be better to have them versus other higher-sugar fruit. I love my steel cut oats with blueberries and a spoonful of greek yogurt. |
