No I'm not egotistical. That's my understanding of a line from ST:TNG that I got my handle from. Never seen it personally, but I thought it'd amusing to use as a subject.

I first started SBD back in Aug, 06. I lost about 51+ lbs in 4 months. I say 51+ because I didn't buy a scale until I was on week 2 of phase 1. So my first known weight was 264, I have a feeling I was pushing 270 - 275.

My goal then was to get to 200. I made it to 213 by Thanksgiving. That's when I slowly started straying from the plan. I started to drink a bit more and eat more non-SBD food.

I slowly worked my weight up to about 218 over the next 6 months. I was at 236 on May, 3rd when I restarted. I was binging at work, ie eating 4 poptarts at a time or 2 candy bars, etc. Get home and eat a sleeve of Ritz crackers.....

The only thing that saved me from this turning into a complete regaining all the weight I lost, was exercise.

I've been playing 2 - 6 hours of volleyball a week, weightlifting 20 - 30 min twice a week, hour long excercise class with weights twice a week, and walking 30 minutes 1 day a week. I think I'm close to being in the best shape of my life, as far as muscle mass goes.

So far SBD has been THE easiest diet I have ever tried. I don't seem to have a hard time staying on program until I started that slow fade off it.

Anyway I finally got fed up with my weight gain. My shirts and jeans were getting snug, so I renewed the journey on May, 3 2008.

Not so vital statistics: almost 38 YO Male, about 6'2 - 3, weighing in at 236 at start.

Hobbies: Volleyball, Advanced Squad Leader, Xbox 360, Golf (though it's been awhile)

So I started day 6 today. The daily weigh in, which I like the same way Maltaguy does, reads 226. So I've lost 10 lbs after 5 days. All water weight I'm sure. I have a pretty good metabolism because of exercise.

I rarely feel hungry and do not feel like I'm starving myself or anything else dangerous.

The big change this time around is I'm trying to follow the plan better.

I'm now drinking 16oz of skim milk a day, up from 0 servings.

I'm eating my 2 cups of veggies at meals up from about 0 servings a day.

I cut my soda consumption back from 4+ liters a day to 2 or less. The funny thing is soda tastes better now. The missing soda has been replaced by water.

Ahhh the evil scale said I remained the same! Not that it matters too much. Everything is still going well for P1, yeah I know it's only been a day.

I don't expect to keep the fast weightloss going. I'm almost 1/3 of the way to goal and I doubt I put on 20 lbs of water weight.

My normal pattern was to lose about 2 - 3 lbs a week on P2. I'd stay the same or go up a bit for a couple days, then 1.5 would go away the next. In a way that is an advanage to a daily weigh in. You get a feel for how you lose weight. A gain won't concern me unless it multiple days in a row, because I've seen myself gain .5 - 1 lbs and then lose it all plus a bit more the next day.

Overall feeling pretty good. No SB flu for me, luckily I've never known what that was like since I eat some beans everyday. Energy levels feel good too.

My challenge will be dinner tonight. Friday was our pizza night, so I'm on my own. Weather may be bad so I can't grill. I may check out some stuffed peppers. Never had them before but I like peppers. Though I've been eating alot of peppers lately, roasted ones on the grill, the last 2 nights.

Well today was interesting meal wise, well for dinner.

I mixed ground beef (cooked), can of French style greenbeans, can of dice tomatos w/ chilis, and a small can of tomato sauce. I have about half of it in the fridge for lunch saturday. It wasn't too bad.

The shocker, for me, was the mock cornbread made with beans. The infamous bean cake has been a small off and on joke with a coworker and I over the years. We've both seen the recipe and the positive reviews, but have always thought "that can't be right".

Well I guess it is. I liked it. My wife liked it too except it was too spicy because I added the cumin. I didn't tell her it was beans though until after she ate it. I also added some flax meal like Recipelover mentions in one of the posts to make it drier.

Will have to experiment with the other recipes. See if I can con my son into eating a bean cinnamon muffin or something :P

Survived Phase 1 week 1 with no problems! Always good to see.

Friday was a little odd, in that I had some of the old cravings to eat something. Luckily they weren't very strong and I made it past them. The odd part was Friday was day 7 of week 1 and it was the first time I had them.

I feel safe to say the water weight phase is over. I lost 10 lbs in 5 days. It's been just .5 over the last three. So my normal weightloss pattern is back, which is good in a way. If I rapidly lost another 5 - 10, redflags would start waving.

There are still some areas that need some tweaking, mainly about leaner beef. It should come together though.

The scale was good to me today, another 1 down for 11.5 to date.

I'm gonna have to start figuring out other lunch options. I've been having the chili on lettuce w/ peppers everyday. The last two batches haven't been that spicy. Either my chili powder is off or I may not have used the right amount. That's probably why it's been a little more blah lately. I do like chili alot, but who knows.

I also will have a big challenge this weekend when I start phase 2. I'm going to a volleyball clinic 3 hours away. So I'll be in a hotel two nights and in a gym for two days. I can bring some stuff with me but it may be a bit difficult to keep right on pace with the normal diet plan. At least i have 3 days to figure it out.

I can get some peanut butter and wraps. I'm bringing a cooler so I may be able to bring lettuce and peppers with me. The room is supposed to have a fridge but I don't want to count on it. So no meat.

I can make wraps with lettuce, yum, to try to get some veggies in. Dinner I should be semi ok. I just gotta find a restuarant and try to get as SB friendly a meal as I can.

I'm not too worried about straying from the plan, as long as it's not a major slip.

Thanks Ladyfingers. It looks like you're making some real good progress towards your goal as well.

Well the not so evil scale says I'm down another 1.5 today. I didn't really lose 1.5 lbs yesterday, I probably have slowly lost about 2 lbs since Sunday and the combination of things that can mask our weightloss went away.

Actually that's not a bad way to think about all the variables that can affect the number on the scale on a daily basis. Water weight, TOM, constipation , they just mask our real weight. That's why I never worry when the scale says I gained unless it says that for a few days in a row. Of course if I lose weight then it's money in the bank. I figure there's not alot of things to make the scale read lower then my real weight, unless I did something that may have caused dehydration etc.

Well it's now day 14 of P1. Good thing too. This is the time where my meal planning breaks down. The chili is good for 4 meals, so I tend to use that for lunch every day. I ran out of it Wed. No point making more since I'm out of town all weekend.

Yesterday lunch was a green salad and I had some cheese with it. Probably the same today.

Still can't figure out what to pack for food for my trip. I have a couple coolers. I'm thinking of bringing salad stuff. Hopefully it'll keep. If not, oh well. I can also try those tuna pouches.

I plan to leave around 4 today and it's a 3 hour drive. Not sure what I'll do for dinner yet. Maybe I'll grill some burgers and have green beans with it, like last night.

The scale is still being nice. Another 1.5 today. The patter has been lose 0, - 1.5, -0, -1.5 for the last 4 days.

Food for thought: Hard boil some eggs, cheese sticks, bag some almonds or pistachios. Get the mini sizes of V8 and when eating out get salads or eggs or a beachy protein and veggie w/ side salad.

No room in my freezer Nessa. I have read that though. I was tiring a bit of it anyways. I need to expand my horizons.

This weekend was rough. Not because I ate what I wasn't supposed to, I just couldn't follow the plan.

Saturday was scrambled eggs and 8 oz LF milk
Lunch was a cheese stick, some cut up red pepper, and romain lettuce. No where near 2 cups worth. I had that much with me but I didn't have the time. Also 1 gala apple, which is my first P2 food addition. Dinner was a Santa Fe chicked salad at applebees. I left off the tortilla chips, sour cream, and gacamole. So it was just grilled chicken, greens, cheese, and pico de galo(sp?), was pretty good.

Sunday was scrambled eggs again with the milk. Snack was a gala apple. Lunch was maybe 1/3 of a red pepper and a cheese stick. Dinner was grilled burgers with a green salad.

The structure of the clinic didn't really allow good following on the normal eating pattern. I also got dehydrated. The two liters of water I brought on Saturday weren't enough.

I'm back on track and will hopefully start to recover by drinking alot of water today.

As of this AM, I lost 4.5 lbs since last friday. The clinic was non stop activity with small instructional breaks for 7 and 5 hours respectively. I was wiped and have some sore muscles today. The lack of carbs I think caught up with me Saturday afternoon. I was wiped and I think that and dehydration were the causes.

So I expect to regain some weight over the next few days.

My prediction was true today, I'm up .5. That's cool though since I should be much better off with regard to hydration. I want to lose weight but I don't want it to be unhealthy.

Today starts day 19 and I'm down 18.5 and 17.5 to go. I just realized I broke the halfway mark. For the record, I did not expect to see this kind of weightloss. I was hoping for 10 lbs after phase 1.

I am feeling good mentally and physically, so I don't think the pace of loss is bad. All I can attribute it to is the amount of excercise I normally do. I am pretty sure I currently have the most muscle mass I have ever had.

Yesterday was:
B- V8 and then omlette with peppers/onion.
MS - 16 oz skim milk
L- 3 oz tuna in water and some lettuce(not enough) and a cheese stick
AS- Gala apple and 15 almonds. I was kinda hungry after this but I ate the snack real late ie 4 PM. Lunch was at 11:30 AM and Dinner was at 5;30 PM. I brought the apple to work today, so I'll have it around 2 and the almonds around 4:30 or so.
D- NY Strip grilled on charcoal with hickory(mmmmm good). It's true charcoal tastes alot better BTW. Along with a green salad(got my veggies in)
NS- NSA fudgecicles. I eat 2 which is 80 cal.

I wasn't 100% on plan yesterday but I'm not starving myself.

How about a banana instead of the apple. Sometimes apples without a protein with it makes me munchy not sure how you feel. Maybe play around with the type of fruit. Just an idea-pottasium is good for all the exercise you do.

Good point about the bannana Wiley. I like them too.

I chose apples first since I like them, it's fruit, and they travel well. Of course bannas meet that criteria too except they are at higher risk of being mushed. I wanted fruit on week 1 because I don't normally eat fruit, just like I didn't used to eat many veggies.

I had an apple Saturday and Sunday with no noticeable impact. However I was also too busy with that clinic to even notice or have it matter.

Last night I had the apple with almonds and I was hungry after. I just don't know if it was the apple or the fact I hadn't eaten in 5 hours.

Today I'll test the apple by itself a couple hours after lunch. The almonds are waiting for me at home, along with celery if I get in trouble with the munchies.

I'll probably add brown rice next week. I'm trying to follow the adding new food rules this time around.
