Hi--this is my first post but I have been reading a lot of the great info here the last few days.
I am on Day 3 of Phase I and there are a few things I am wondering about and didn't see mentioned in the FAQ's!
Are canned refried beans OK? I bought the organic vegetarian refried pinto beans and the organic vegetarian black beans. The only ingredients are beans, water and sea salt.
So far I have only been having the beans at dinner. I love them but am a little afraid to eat them more often than that. Is that silly?
And what about DaVinci splenda-sweetened syrups? Can I use these to flavor ricotta cheese or plain yogurt? I really don't like plain yogurt so I hope its OK to use a splash of the DaVinci syrup on it.
Thanks! |

Welcome to the Forum! Let me answer your questions:
Quote: Are canned refried beans OK?
Yes, try to get the fat-free refried beans versions.
If you also buy the whole beans, then rinse them before using them.
The serving size of beans if up to 1/2 cup per meal, but you can have them at more than one meal.
Quote: And what about DaVinci splenda-sweetened syrups?
Yes, they are fine. You need to count the calories from the syrups toward your 100 calories from treats.

thanks Ami--I hadn't thought about counting the syrups towards my sweet allowance.
This weekend I am hoping to cook some of my own lentils. But during the work week I just don't have time to do a lot of cooking. |

| silly? yes a bit and not really. lots of good healthy properties in beans and at least one serving a day is a really good idea, esp. in P1, but even throughout P2/P3 just for nutrient and fiber qualities. But they are more calorie dense than other veggies, so do need to be careful with quantities. More than a cup or so a day is probably not a great idea. All things in moderation... ;) But try not to become "carb-o-phobic". We need the right kinds of carbs and there are a lot of good ones to choose from in all phases. You still want to eat a balanced diet, just a healthy one with all elements in proportion to each other. |
