Kendy

My name is Kendy and I am new to SB. A Co-Worker has started doing it and was telling me about it. I have tried so many different diets that I wasn't sure it would work. I found this site and I have found lot of infomation and it sounds like something I could follow. I even have my son and hubby agreeing to do it with me. My daughter won't be doing it like we are b/c she isn't over weight and tends to be a very very picky eater. I guess my biggest concern is trying to find thing hubby will eat. He can be a little picky when it comes to salads and certain other things. I saw though eggs and chilli were fine on P1. So that may be a life safer because he likes both those things. I want to get him eating fish . The only fish he has ever eaten is Ms. Paul (yuck) so I'm hoping to be able to find some good recipes to use in hopes to get him to eat it.

I have to say I am SO excited about starting this. We agreed Monday will be our start date. This weekend we are cleaning out our pantry and donating it to the Food Bank and then we will go shopping for what we need. I can wait to meet you guys on the boards and if any of you have any advice for me since I am new to it all I will listen with open ears and mind. Thanks for having such a informative site.

Your husband sounds like me. Kinda picky, not a big salad or fish fan.

I've been eating alot of taco salads. Just leafy greens, some cut up pepper, and the Sb chili on top. That's been my lunch for the last 5 days, but I like it so I'm not sick of it yet.

If you find a fish recipe, I'll be curious to see what it is since I'm just like him in that regard.

Overall you should be able to make this work. There's enough variety, even in P1, so there should be something he'll like in the veggie dept.

Last night we had some grilled pork. I also did some roasted peppers and onions using a recipe from here, for myself. At first the peppers and onions were ok, but then I took a small piece of pork and peppers/onions and ate it together. Much better, kinda like when you have it on a sausage sub at a football game.

Salads may work the same way with him. A green salad with XXXX added is more appealing to him then if it was all by itself.

So experiment a little. I know it's hard with a picky eater, but I've greatly expanded my veggie consumption, up from almost 0 servings a day, and I'm starting to try more things. If I can do it, I'm sure he can.

Just don't be shocked if his weightloss outpaces you. Guys tend to do that.

I know I'm rambling, but planning is more important with this diet then others I've tried. Try to figure out at a high level what some meal options are. In my case, breakfast will be egg based, the chili salad is lunch, skim milk is 1 snack, almonds another, evening snack is either jello or a NSA fudgcicle. So this gives me a rough idea of what I may need ahead of time and provides a little structure.

Regardless, GL to all of you. Even if you don't lose any weight the SBD is healthier then the typical American diet, which will have a positive impact on your health.

Welcome and good luck. As far as the fish thing, find the parmesan crusted fish recipe in the recipe summary sticky thread, and maybe try it with tilapia which is a pretty mild and non-fishy tasting fish. That one always seems to get great reviews and while I don't use a lot of the recipes here, that is one that I think is a real winner and our family really enjoys a lot. And since it's basically an egg wash with a parmesan cheese dip, it might be like those Mrs. Pauls thingies, only better! ;)
