Hey guys, my name is Michelle. Although I'm new to the boards, I've been doing SBD for about 8 weeks, and I'm steadily into phase 2. I've been pretty successful so far, though I am a college student living off of "meal plans" with not much variety. I thought I might as well join the message board, since I think my family and boyfriend are pretty tired of hearing me talk about whole grains and the Glycemic index.
Anyway, I'm wrapping up things here at school Thursday and getting ready to move into an apartment with the boyfriend and free myself from the dreaded "meal plans". I need some ideas for my first official SBD grocery list. What are your guys' essentials to have in the kitchen?

I like the "stay around the edge of the grocery for most of your needs" idea.
Produce:
Veggies, veggies, veggies! Everything that looks good, everything that's on sale. (Except lettuce. I hate when it goes bad, so I pick that up day of.)
Apples (I like gala and fuji)
Berries (when in season)
Meat:
Lean ground beef
Ground turkey and/or chicken breast
Fresh and frozen fish
Turkey pepperoni
Lean steaks
Chicken breast
Turkey bacon
Canadian bacon
Dairy:
1% milk
ff plain yogurt
tons of 2% cheese
light string cheese (YUM!)
lowfat cottage cheese
ricotta
hummus
Frozen foods:
berries (no sugar added)
any plain veggie mixes (lots and lots)
nsa fudgesicles
light coolwhip
Then hit the inside aisles briefly:
canned beans
canned tomatoes
broths
tuna
irish oatmeal
pickles!
sf jello and pudding mixes
Splenda
Sheesh - that's a long list. And not inclusive! |

Wow, you rock! Thanks a ton. I felt kind of silly asking that question, but when you live off of a giant buffet with very few SBD friendly options, grocery shopping becomes pretty pretty big event.

| Oh, don't worry! The first few times I went shopping after starting SB I poured through these threads and made out big lists so I wouldn't forget anything or buy the wrong stuff! But I didn't put it in good order, so my roomie and I kept having to go back-and-forth across the store. She wasn't thrilled about it! |
