I have searched and can't really find an answer to this.
I live in Arizona and like to go Hiking. It is advisable when hiking in the heat to eat something salty every time you drink water or drink gatorade/powerade type drink. I haven't been out hiking since restarting SB and was just wondering what is best...the hikes I am going on range from 2 1/2 miles to 8-9 miles. The 2 1/2 miles are summit trails where you go up for 1.2 miles and then back down but there is quite a bit of elevation gain and I huff and puff quite a bit.
I use to mix half gatorade and half water in one bottle and plain water in the other bottle. In the heat, it is nice to drink some gatorade to give me a little bit of a push. I saw a generic Crystal light that was some performance or energizing brand but didn't know if that would give me the same push. I am looking for something to drink while hiking not afterwards.
thanks! |

this is going to sound totally gross (I still think it is) but here in Austin, a lot of the biking and hiking stores well (get ready for this) pickle juice to drink while biking and hiking. It is salty, and it will help with any type of muscle or side cramps you get while working out.

Theres the website for the pickle juice.
Another option you can choose is to bring your snack while hiking. I will pack a small snack in my "bento" (japanese lunchbox) and take it with me in a small shoulder bag. No mess and no fuss. |

| one of our doctors who bikes swears by pickle juice! They serve it at the bike rallies - someone suggested having it frozen like a popsicle for real refreshment! |
