hey all. i haven't really been to this forum much since it got shut down (or whatever... hehe) but i'm glad it's back up! the only problem is that while it was down, i hit a major plateau.

i started at 178 (last summer) and i'm now down to 156lbs. I want to continue down to the 130's (i'm only 5'1).

So here's the actual question... what kinds of inspirations do people look to to lose weight? i don't mean religious ones... i'm not a religious person. I mean, do you buy things? or reward yourself? or take pictures of your bulging belly? what can i look at everyday to help me reach my goal?

i've been searching for this for a while, and i was hoping for some ideas.

thanks, R :D

Here's what works for me.

What I usually do is set up my mini goals. That's basically all the weight that I plan to lose, broken down into small achievable goals of lets say, 10lbs each time. I associate a reward with each mini goal. From your post I assume that you have around 26lbs to lose, so how about this

#1 - 5lbs
#2 - 5lbs
#3 - 5lbs
#4 - 5lbs
#5 - Target weight (6lbs)

If you aim for your final target as of now, you might get discouraged. But if you break it down like this, you will see that its doable. Don't restrain yourself to a time frame (it's impossible to predict when you will reach a mini goal). Associate rewards, that are not related to food, with each mini goal ... things that you like to do. And it works, at least for me, but I know a lot of people that worked for them as well.

Taking pictures is another good idea. I do that as well. I take two sets of pictures, one with full clothes on (so that I will be able to put them on this board in due time), and one in just underwear. Those are just for me personal, to monitor my progress. Take pictures with every 10lbs you lose, and you will see the difference. It's important that you take pictures from the same distance and standing at the same position as the previous set, so as to be able to compare.

As far as motivation goes. A lot of people motivated me so much on this board, just by reading their successful stories, or even just by leaving me a message in my journal. The show Biggest Loser was crucial for me, it had such a huge impact on me.

Take pride in your achievements. Even if it's a 1lb loss, live that moment of joy and cherish it ... when you get in touch with your emotions you will do even better because this journey .. this wol .. is beyond losing weight .. it's about reconnecting with ourselves .. knowing our bodies and how we function.

I wish you so much luck!

this sounds kind of dorky, but i've always gone through the picture posts, and you're kind of a "south beach celebrity" to me. i always thought your progress was amazing, and you should be extremely proud of yourself. YOUR picture, most of all, has been the biggest inspiration for me so far.

thank you for your advice. it means a lot to me :)

OP, I do this when I wake up every morning: I close my eyes and imagine what I want to look like, then I say my "mantra" or "slogan",whatever you want to call it - something you choose for yourself that reminds you why you are on this journey-few times. Every time during the day I feel tempted by something, I keep repeating it. I know, sounds silly, but it works! BTW, it's not a religious thing, it's a sport thing :)
Promising myself a new laptop works too - worked last time!
